So, the forces of darkness have elected themselves a new overlord. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4502652.stm)

He's a pompous, execrable little toff - born with a silver spoon rammed up his arse.

He fancies himself as the next Blair, and like Bush he's a 'compassionate conservative'.

He actually does have a little charm, but so does Satan.

His opponent played up his 'council house, single mum, comprehensive background' and got thoroughly drubbed. Although, he's heinous as well.

Apparently he's William IV's great, great, great, great, great grandson too.

Considering that Blair has throughly occupied the centre ground of British politics I don't see much changing.

Yes, but the point is that when both main parties try to occupy the 'centre' ground, personality comes into it more and more.

The Tories have been a total charisma vaccum for a decade. And I said, Cameron, although revolting, might appeal to lots of Middle Englanders with his winning smile.

I agree.

Plus I think he can succeed where all the passed few leaders have failed. They all said they'd appeal to the youth, it's like the broken record of the Tories. But Hague, with his baseball cap, tragically failed. Duncan-Smith, well, he was so short lived that I can't even remember how much he failed. Howard clearly wasn't on the wavelength of anyone below 35. But I think David Cameron might genuinely get some votes from the younger generation. especially as everyone's looking for an alternative at the moment.

But there's 4 years untill an election. The shine can fade in that amount of time very easily.

Maybe he'll be the last major tory leader. Actually i cant help but think in yrs to come as british society becomes more and more polarized the current situation where thw two main parties are supposedly centre is untenable. I think that the tories will graducally mvoe to the right.

Yeah english politics has been slowly turining into a personality vote, than anything else; with all parties merging into the same space, with the conservatives maybe slightly to the right.

This guy admitted he smoked weed when he was younger and apparently this worked in his favour wheb being voted in. Maybe its all part of the new conservative charasmatic edge! Somehow I doubt it

Opinion polls show that if there was an ellection tomorrow, the tory's would win...

Cameron seems to appeal to a lot of high school conservatives (it might just be where I live) and he seems to be able to command a lot of respect...

It's really the last thing anyone with even a moderate distaste for the tories needed...

i don't agree with the tories being "doomed". this has completely turned their fortunes around, and has added a human face to the leadership.

i think this can only be good for britain, as hopefully it might shift labour back to the left when blair goes, as two parties will not be able to hold the middle ground.
