i am trying to understand why, during an anti war against iraq march thousands of people were carrying free palestine banners.

i think that many of the protestors were arabic and saw the opportunity to protest for a palestinian state.

which i am not against but if you are going to protest, maybe people should have protested for the freedom of the iraqi people and not another country which has no direct relevance to the dissarmament of iraq

Here in NZ the protest was organised by quite a few different leftist groups. I'm sure the free paletine group was part of the coalition as there was a large free palestine contingent here too.
Incidentally the free palestine movement would be one of the most active groups around here at the moment.

Well over here (Ireland), the march was "subtitled" Justice For Palestine but to answer your question all these conflicts and situations are interlinked.

the protest here was ok, but it wasnt much, they cut off circulation at the border, so the border patrol called a private security company and they were out there making sure no one crossed the international boundary, it was pretty good, but there were alot of kids there who were only there because after the protest some bands were gonna play (bands sucked by the way) and the lady that was giving the speeches did not know what she was talking about, she went from saying that bush was trying to establish the III reich from saying that children in Chiapas were dying and that it ws because of terrorism, she did not know what she was talking about first she was dissing the us government then all of a sudden it changed to the mexican government but ll in all it was ok, since this was my first protest, i got really pissed though when one of the border patrol guys said "i bet if we pop one or two the rest will leave" i got so mad i got it on tape to, wanted to beat his ass, anyways it was ok

A few protesters in greece (maybe few other countries) threw what looked like molotov cocktails at the usa embassy. This is before the full scale war. Imagine what people will do if it does start.

Red Celtic, don't be fooled by the NYPD. A few of us busted through the barricades and even forced the police to capitulate in order for us to exercise our rights to assemble and free speech. Once we reached the rally, there was room for EVERYONE who the police were preventing to enter the rally.

I missed this one, I will not miss one after the war begins. I will throw choclate milk on the US Consulate in Toronto and the US Embasy in Ottawa. Oh and on the Canadian Alliance too, for supporting the war.

They not only tried, they almost succeeded, crazy pete. There were barricades inexplicably set up 2 blocks west and 20 blocks going north/south around the rally in order to prevent the masses from attending the rally. Despite the NYPD's best efforts, the hundreds of thousands who saw right through this attempt to deny our freedoms of speech and assembly broke through and eventually the police capitulated after about 3 hours.

I actually reached the front of the stage with about 20 minutes left in the rally to find plenty of room available for EVERYONE.

I witnessed an elderly woman shoved to the ground by police, a policeman choke a random protester even though the protester was minding his own business, people arbitrarily arrested, mounted policemen using their steeds as weapons as they bowled over stationary crowds, a young girl sprayed in the face with mace, etc. As for violence towards the police, I saw none except for direct retaliation towards offenses commited by the police.

all the protests I've been to were against our fucking right wing government. There were never any problems with the police because all the protests were in Vienna, and Vienna is RED(also the police there is red). Some policemen even solidarized with us.

the protest against the war is ofcourse for a big part a protest against the US gouv. and it's politics.the p[alestinians are very much victoms of the same politics.and yea there were a lot of arabs, and they could see the war as a war against arabs or islam.but then you're forgetting that saddam hussein is very anti islam and doesn't listen to any of the arab coutrys surrounding him.

The reason that the protests were subtitled "Justice For Palestine" was to show the hypocrisy of the US and British governments. They want to after Saddam because of resolution 1441, but Israel is currently in contravention of over 80 resolutions and yet they still support that state.

I was on the frontlines fighting for my American right to be heard and to assemble at the rally. This video is a taste of what occured in NYC.
