I don't usually go to the mainstream movie theatres, but I had to see this film because I love the man in black. I thought it was really well done. It seriously touched me. The story of how he overcame drug addiction, straightned out his life and finally married the woman he loves. The scene where he plays Folsom prison was great.

I often go to the movies (once or twice a month) and I found that it was one of the best movies of the year.

This a movie I really want to see. I've hear that Phoenix does a great portrayal of Cash. He will probably get an oscar nomination.

My opinion is pretty much worthless, but I thought it was an average film. Phoenix was interesting as Cash, but the movie was so damn long and pointless.
Every time they start to play a Cash song, they don't cut the scene until the song is done. They could have shortened the movie by a damn hour just by cutting the performance sequences. And for such a long movie, you'd think they could tell a better story... Here's the spoiler: Johnny Cash gets on drugs, then he quits.
The childhood sequences are lousy. They should have cut all that crap out. Yeah, I get it. Cash wanted to prove himself to daddy. The worst part is that the background childhood stuff just felt too contrived. When his little brother died, it was so horribly executed that I didn't really care!
So yeah, cut out the first 15 minutes of the film and most of the musical numbers and it was decent.

I saw Walk the Line, a pretty bad ass movie. I loved the music in it, a big Cash fan here.

No doubt. Phoenix did a great job, so did Reese Witherspoon.

I just recently saw it and thought that Phoenix did a great job. However I do think the film was not much better than average. Which is a lot better than most of the films released this year.
