The other day I was debating with a swiss capitalist. Infuriated by my position, he told me that Marx had raped his wife's maid in an attempt to discredit Marx. I pointed out that even if it is true it has nothing to do with out argument which was about economics.

But it still bugged me. Did he indeed rape his maid?

Well, its too late to ask this question, Karl marx is not alive to defend himself. Though, it is pretty tough to ascertain the truth now, but I would give benefit of doubt to Marx that he did not rape his maid. Maybe, they mutually agreed to enter into a physical relationship and the maid got pregnant as a consequence.

It's unknown who got the maid pregnant and thus some people have speculated it was Marx.

Marx, and his personal life, have absolutly nothing to do with any discussion on Marxism. Marxism is about classes, not individuals, objective reality not slander and speculation.

I do not know.

An anti-communist conservative claimed he had read Marx saying that all people not wearing clothes should be shot. Did Marx want every naked human being to be shot?

That's funny. Even if it's true, you've got to put people in the context of the times they lived in. At that time public nudity was not only as frowned upon as it is now, but also seen as something very disgusting. To have a problem with Marx for something like that, true or not, is like completely rejecting Jefferson because he had slaves.

Marx did not rape his maid , There is a controveresey surrounded such a thought, but I highly highly doubt it. If he is indeed the culprite of getting the maid pregnant, I'm sure both of the subjects where more than willing to have realtions and that neither is guilty of rape.
