I have been reading 'The Communist Manifesto' over and over and i`m starting to get what i think is a fairly ok level of knowledge on communism.
My question is what is your opinion on where do you see the future of IT in communism.
Please feel free to add opinions on other undustries future under communism.

Technology (and especially computers) are one of the main things that significantly aid the faciliation of partcipatory economics.
Instantenous communication can be useful for so many things. Likewise, computers may be used to automate many factories/services/etc.

I see the IT sector rapidly growing in a commie society. It will be free from the chains of government, corporations, etc. IT can help all of us and make our lifes more efficient and fun.

Parts of IT like open source & file sharing are helping to break down private property and would probably flourish in libertarian communism.

I think it's worth looking at this from two views: immediately following the revolution and after the revolution has established itself as "permanent" (ie: we're not gonna lose).
I think that ,immediately following a revolutionary movement, our whole economy is going to be somewhat backwards. The capitalist economy is more unsuited to communist reorganization and democratization now than it was in Marx's day. I think we'll be so focused on getting everyone fed and promoting cultural change, that reparing the IT infrastructure will be a secondary objective.
Now, that said, I think a communist culture will advance with leaps and bounds in this field, once it's established. I think you'll get advances in two forms. The first will be "community" based, with decisions made by the whole directing the research and development of certain techs, probably based at a public Tech schools and research facilities. The other kind of development will be kind of random. People are going to have a lot of free time. They'll develop technology in small groups or by themselves; there's no telling what they will be or how these things will be integrated into society, but ya' know that it's going to happen.
You think that technology advances rapidly in a capitalist society? Just wait. If anything, we'll be moving too fast (if and when the revolution is "established") and will have problems actually USING and INTEGRATING new technologies at the pace they're invented.
But without a doubt, if a revolutionary society is to succeed, IT development in nearly sector of the economy will not only happen, it will HAVE to happen for communities to be truly successful. Just not before we get the basics in order.
