I was talking about Cuba the other day at school. and one of my acquaintances told me that he went to Cuba for vacation and saw that some people don't even have roofs, or walls on their houses. And that they live in poor conditions. I was wondering, is this true? Shouldn't Cubans be getting more?

I don't know if that is true or not, but I've seen many homeless Americans sleeping on park benches. Shouldn't our governments $ be helping them out, instead of used for unecessary war?

That's just hiding from the real point, Cuban poverty. From what I know Cubans live in houses with WALLS AND ROOVES, obviously without walls...er yeah. I don't think you should turn the argument and throw it on America, Cuba is the focus here. Frankly, I don't know specifics, and I havn't been to Cuba yet.

Ummm....ok. :'( The point that I was trying to make is that the teachers were probably trying to make America look better than Cuba. I was simply stating that there is povery in America as well, therefore the two ARE directly linked. [I'm assuming you are American CopperGoat, and if not my post has no point] I was not trying to evade the issue of Cuban Poverty. I'm sure there must be some poverty there, however I have no idea whether the majority of houses have roofs and walls or not. I have not been there, and also some people may prefer not to have one panel of walling or so on do to the topic. I really have no idea. Sorry I just thought my point would be interpreted as me making a connection between the U.S. and Cuba.

Ok, I just read your profile and see you are from Canada but I think my point is still somewhat relevant.

You're right America has poverty, but so does almost every nation in the world. So this comment has no relevance. We should all take it a step farther and try to analyze the "whys, hows, and such".

Perhaps this is irrelevant to the "political" discussion...but, you know Cuba suffered two hurricanes last fall...it's quite likely that any roofless buildings that one sees in Cuba now are remnants of the damage caused by the two storms.

And I sort of doubt anyone was "living" in them.

I thought they lived in pens.

No walls or rooves? Do they live next to a brick wall?

From critical studies I've seen, everyone in Cuba has a home and food.

Based on my own personal observations, i would say that everyone in Cuba has a home. With that, i mean, they have a roof, walls, and rooms. Obviously these rooms include a bathroom and a kitchen, but seeing as i have not been inside every single home in Cuba, i can't verify that. And i suspect there are a few homes that still use outhouses, as in Puerto Rico. Some people prefer them, not sure why though. Junichi, take it easy man.. he was making a correlation and a comment. I don't think he was trying to sway the conversation OR avoid the topic at hand. If anything, he was probably just saying he doesn't know Cuba's condition, but does know the United State's and felt the need to comment on that.

WTF??

Sorry, but maybe your friend was stoned and was visiting some beggars at Central Park.

No roof - no walls!!! I've been living in Cuba and tarvelled a big deal all over the country and I have NEVER EVER seen anything like that!

My god, what an effective misinformation campaign is your friend doing by telling sucha a big lie.

Within a "Macro-economic" context, Cuba is in fact a poor country, but EVERYONE has a home (A DECENT ONE) and everyone has access to education, health care, etc.

I must insist, either your friend had done some drugs o he hasn't been to Cuba.

For many kids who have never wondered that there is another world besides the one they live in, any developing country may seem "terribly poor".

I wish he could come to Argentina, and I will show what Capitalism means. Some of our cities look like FIRST WORLD cities and many litlle towns are so poor ppl live in the worst conditions he can ever imagine (and of course, no roof, no walls, no food, no nothing). THAT doesn't happen in Cuba at all!!!!

Your acquaintance is a jerk, CopperGoat.

Tell your friend to visit Cuba, because he's probably repeating what he read somewhere. From what I understand and have seen, Cubans live better than people do in any other latin American nations. He should visit Sao Paulo, where I'm from, because about one out every six people live in poverty, in a shack made from trash on a hill in the outskirts of the city where the father works building high-rises, if he is lucky enough to have a fucking job!! Because millions of Brazillians move to Sao Paulo in search of a job and end up almost homeless earning almost nothing in hopes of someday returning to his family who have probably become alchoholic prostitutes! I'd rather live in Cuba any day than a be a poor Barzillian born with absolutely no opportunities and a chance at a succesful, fulfilling life!! Hopefully things will be better now for Brazillians that Lula has been elected.

got off the subject there a bit, sorry.
