I was reading a bio of Gilles Duceppe,. the leader of the bloc qubecois, on the CBC website, and he was in fact a founding member of the Communist Party Of Canada { Marxist-Leninist } back in the 60's, now it so horrible that he is a sepertist and did not join the liberals, i mean could u imagine a communist all be it , back in the 60's as our PM ?

communism was huge here in the 60's and 70's
everywhere you look there are ex leftists, I heard the old head of the Maoists is now one of the largest landholders in montreal.
There is also an ex flq member who plotted to bomb the statue of liberty in the national assembly.
Goes to show, yesterdays wannabe vanguardist leaders can become todays nationalist leaders.

Why on earth would he have joined the Liberals?
Far left to moderate left makes a whole lot more sense than far left to centre-right. The Bloc is probably the furthest party to the left in Parliament; it's not by any means Maoist, but it's a whole lot closer than the bloody Liberals.
I may not be a seperatist, by I sure as hell recognize that the PQ and its federal counterpart are more progressive than the PLQ and LPC!

Does anyone have political details on the new BQ leader? I know much has been made of the fact that he used cocaine.

You mean PQ leader, right?
Boisclaire's your standard PQ seperatist social democrat. Pretty much in the vein of Levesque, but obviously more socially liberal.
I know much has been made of the fact that he used cocaine.
And that he had gay sex with multiple partners.
Personally, I view both of those as positive characteristics, but that's just me... ;)
Anyways, politics is politics, and so of course his past would be used by his opponents. It's actually kind of encouraging, however. Can you imagine even 5 years ago, a gay admitted drug-user being elected leader of a major party and, given current poll numbers, probably the next premiere of Quebec?
So much for the "Catholic province"!
