It's a good book. Some of Domhoff's other stuff is worth reading too. Gives a more concrete feel for who the ruling class is, and how business owners discuss and come to a consensus or partial consensus as a class, influence politics, and so forth. Also about their social organizations, their elite schools, and so forth.

I don't know about the book, but his critique of Marxism is trash.

What I remember him saying about Marxism, is that Marxists do basically the same thing he does when we take the time to actually prove the axiom that the government is bourgeois. That is, look at its actions, show who they benefit, point out who proposed the various laws and policies, the influence of the different business groups....
Which is true. So his work is certainly useful to Marxists.
