Bloomberg Signs Jail Time Bill For Rowdy Sports Fans
December 01, 2005

Mayor Michael Bloomberg signed a bill into law Thursday that could give sports fans jail time if they throw something onto the field at a sporting event or run onto the field.

If a potentially dangerous item is thrown, offenders could get up to a year in prison.

The City Council passed the measure last month.

Councilman Peter Vallone sponsored the bill after witnessing an ugly and potentially dangerous scene at Yankee Stadium.

During Game Six of the 2004 American League Championship Series, umpires called Alex Rodriguez out for slapping the ball away from the Red Sox pitcher. Fans threw debris on the field and police had to step in.

This is so wrong.

I condemn violence at sport games, but offenses like this are ridiculous, what if you accidently fall onto the feild? The gestapo pigs will arrest you and give you and year in prison. If you are just screwing around and throw a slushie out in the feild, boom, your in prison. This is a minor offence and this is a severe punishment.

Oh, come on, man, get serious. First of all, it takes a pretty huge effort to "accidentally" fall on a sports field. Second, if it was an honest accident, no one is going to get arrested. Your prpoganda knows no reason. A year in prison? There are much worsse crimes that don't even get a year in prison. Are you that delusional?

If you are just screwing around and throw a slushie out in the feild, boom, your in prison.

It won't work like that, but you shouldn't be throwing slushies in the field and prolonging a sports event for tens of thousands of paying fans, should you?

This is a minor offence and this is a severe punishment.

I think this legislation is aimed more at violent offenders that throw things like size D batteries and charge the field to assault umpires and coaches.

There is nothing more pathetic than a self-loathing Ameircan. If you think American's are stupid, then why don't you leave? No one wants you here if that is the attitude that you project.

Well my freind Capitalist Imperialist, accidents do happen, and when they do, you can get easily in trouble because this world is a tough one. I have thrown stuff at games, it doesn't hit anyone, and my motive is that it doesn't hit anybody.

If New York passes this law, they should pass a law that arrests baseball players for hitting someone in the stands by accident. Why does the New York City Council pass a law that takes away freedoms from spectators? Why, because they can't enforce the rules the right way, if I was in this situation I would add more security to watch over the place.

The most pathetic thing ever is a nationalist scumbag.

Nationalism is like religion, they are just part of a mere primitive ideology.

Having pride on something as artificial and random as "your nation".

Christ you're a dumbass.

If I thought all Americans were stupid I would have excluded the term "stupid" in "stupid Americans". Since I left it there, it was obviously to differentiate between the stupid ones and the not-stupid ones. Do you comprehend this, or do I need to run this by you again?

It depends what is being thrown on the field, but if it is a potentially dangerous item, as they claim, then I do think that at least a severe fine should be implemented. Throwing D batteries at players should not be condoned or allowed. Somehow I don't think throwing a slushie onto the field will qualify as "potentially dangerous", however. I don't disagree with the move at all, and it's definitely not anything "fascist".

If you read it it says "If a potentially dangerous item is thrown, offenders could get up to a year in prison." How often does someone "accidentally" fall onto a field with a dangerous item? Not to mention how hard it must be to "accidentally" fall onto a field.

Also, would just like to say that someone who throws non-harmful trash just out of disrespect for a call or action should not be punish. It is just someones split-second non-harmful thought. A slushy or hotdog on the field is not a crime.

Religion - And there are also millions of Americans who are also stupid, unintelligent morons.

Now for sports, I don't like them at all, but if you do, then that's your choice.

Sports is like a religion, with a little less of the "God" aspect, to me.

Hockey is my god, go Devils!!!!

I don't see why this law is necessary, if you hit someone with something thrown you should be charged with assault and fined or imprisoned accordingly. If you run onto the field during a game odds are one of the athletes is going to get a good shot on you and/or security is going to kick the crap out of you. This law seems just to be more about p.r. than having any real signifagence.
