What I know of him, I liked. He seemed to do a lot of good for Pan-Arab struggle, at least as an icon if not a politician.

History rarely gives us "good guys" and "bad guys". Nasser was a nationalist who restored some pride to his people and opposed Western imperialism. On the flip side he was no socialist and was quite the authoritarian. He did what he deemed best, much like most people.

True, he did oppose Western imperialism, but he also had extremely anti-semitic newspapers and made Egypt a safe haven for Nazis after WWII.

This is true. He came to power on an openly anti-Communist platform. But after consolidating power, he pursued an economic nationalist platform that consisted of the nationalization of major industry and the Suez canal. His social programs and agricultural reform were successful in bringing many people out of poverty. He is an icon of the Pan-Arab movement, and overall he was a very progressive leader, even if he wasn't a revolutionary socialist.

Nasser is someone that I feel uncertain about. He did oppose the neo-colonization war the west was waging at the time. He also helped get rid of lots of poverty. However he was very authoritarian and extremely anit-jewish. His natoinalism was too storng in my opinion, but was needed to unite the Egyptian people against the west.
