You can make pretty much anything out of duct tape. As an example, here's how to make a rose:

Steps

1. cut a straight piece of wire about one foot long from a metal coat-hanger.

2. cut several strips of duct tape that are about 2 inches long each (at least 20 of them).

3. Sticky side up, fold one edge over itself, leaving some of the sticky part at the bottom and side (do this width-wise; it should be taller than it is wide at this point).

4. Take the parallel edge and fold it over as well, leaving the bottom still sticky. After this, the piece of duct tape should have a pointy top and a sticky bottom.

5. Roll this around the top 1-1.5 inch of the wire tightly, with the sticky part of the tape on the inside (to adhere to itself). These are the petals of the rose.

6. Repeat steps 2-5 until you've reached your desired rose size. Once done, wrap the wire in duct tape as well.

Believe it or not, it makes a pretty convincing rose. It's even better if you have red duct tape for the petals and green duct tape for the stem. It might take a couple times before you get the hang of it, but it actually works pretty well.

Also, it hurts like hell if someone hits you with one of these. It's like a subterfuge billy club. Which might make it even more useful.

Any other duct tape ideas out there?

I ski frequently, and skiing is a sport where the whole duct tape culture is pretty big. I have seen duct tape shoes, wallets, etc.

Take shoes for example:

1) Cut two pieces of cardboard to appropriate size for sole

2) Cut two pieces of cardboard in such a way that, when wrapped around the foot, they extend from bottom of foot to the ankle and cover it entirely.

3) Duct tape left top and sole together, do the same for the right

4) Coat shoe in duct tape (except sole)

5) Cut down front of each shoe to create space for foot (lases area of conventional shoe)

6) Take two equal-length pieces (shoe-lace length) and braid them together

7) Coat unfinished lace in more duct tape, repeat steps 6-7 for other shoe

8) Poke holes in shoes along cut for laces

9) Lace 'em up

10) Walk away

Now, I think it is particularly obvious that these shoes do not work, will fall apart after any real use, and are for entertainment purposes only. If you did not realize that, now you know.

I guess in some (extreme) situations where you are left with a knife and lots of excess duct tape, you could make shoes that could possibly save your life, but more likely, this is a useless skill :)

EDIT: I forgot to proof the post ;)
