protest against the ban on the abortion pill

so today we had a cool action against the ban on the abortion pill in australia. basically its been banned since 1996 but recently there have been calls from medical organisations and other groups to lift the ban as it's a perfectly safe drug, and no riskier than surgical abortion. the health minister tho refused to accept the findings of his own ministry and said that itll have to go to a 'conscious vote'. so we went to the liberal party headquarters [not actually liberal at all :/] to try to occupy it. it failed cos security kicked us out pretty quick but then we went around distributing leaflets attached to coathangers [to symbolise the horrific nature of backyard abortions which ppl resort to when they dont have access to monitored abortion] and stuck them all over the city. here are some pics!

it was a pretty good turnout considering the late notice, about 20 ppl in all :) including 4 men, which was great :D

i didnt get a pic of the tshirts some of us were wearing but they had a picture of scissors on them and said, 'if you cut our reproductive choice...can we cut yours?'

this was hilarious - james saw this suitcase in the bin outside the station and being the dumpster diving fanatic he is went to take it

then he realised it was broken, so he opened it up and guess what he found?

thats right, coathangers! yay!

we all got really excited and started grabbing them out. all the corporate scum on their lunchbreak looked disgusted, so funny.
