View Full Version : Seizing the Socialist Mode

Time after time when arguing with cappies I have heard them say that eventually, one of the workers during the time of socialism (or the communist stage) would seize production for themselves, and start capitalism again.
I have never been able to come up with a response to this. What is it?

It's a debaters' trick. Anybody "could" or "would" possibly do anything.

You could just as easily say that, if there was capitalism, communism is inevitable because a group of tenants could run off their landlord, or homeless people could do a takeover of vacant land. So counter the false argument with the material motivations the dispossessed have to fight against the system of property--and the material motivations the possessors have to fight to dispossess the masses.

thats a genius rebuttal, but i must say im a bit dissatisfied that the members of this board didnt jump all over on this thread considering its a common cappie argument.

Do what Floyce White said, or go another route.

"Maybe, but if so many people dislike their freedom and wealth that they'd allow someone to take all of their stuff, wouldn't that be against your so-called 'greedy human nature'."

Well, we actually don't spend much time here arguing with capitalists...except in the Opposing Ideologies forum.

You could try this response...

Capitalism can't exist...because sooner or later, some capitalist will turn his workers into serfs and assume the ancient privileges of a feudal lord.

By the end of this century, capitalism is probably going to detoriate and we'll either go back to a feudal society, or it could completely fail all of a sudden (i.e. another Great Depression) and some dumbshit fascist could take advantage of it and launch a fascist government. Like what happened in Germany after WWI.
