In the eastern region of the U.S.S.R there were and still are many tribes and villages whos inhibitance lead rather primitive lives. Where they effected by the revolution, reforms, leaders and down fall of the U.S.S.R or did they just carry on as they do now?

I imagine there would have been some intervention with there way of life but to what extent.

All I know about this is that Moscow used to encourage settlers from the rest of Russia to head out to these isolated parts of the country and work in the mines, timberyards etc out there. With the fall of the SU I'd imagine that most of them have packed up and headed back to civilisation.

And I'd imagine that's there wasn't a single village anywhere in the USSR that didn't have a statue of Lenin ;)

I've heard stories about a few isolated villiages where they haden't even heard of the 2nd world war until travelers came through during the 90s.....

I'm thinking the Soviet Unions establishment and fall didn't do a whole helluva lot to many of the isolated regions in Eastern Russia...

In the East i think they were nomads that relied on reindeer herds. I watched a show on them, but it focused on them in the present.

Most countries got some sort of heavy industry, such as Mongolia which started taking steps towards industrialization in the 30's and developed on from there but later had its economy smashed by neoliberal policies imposed upon by Washington.

Most of the industry Mongolia developed was f.ex. Light industry (Consumer goods), Heavy Industry (Mining, Energy production, Construction etc) which benefitted the population very much, but still continued with their traditional lives.
