WASHINGTON-- The Bush administration Friday raised the national terror alert from yellow to orange, citing a U.S. intelligence warning of a "high risk" of terrorist attack, a senior administration official said. It's the second highest level in the color-coded system.

I just watched the news conference from Ridge and Ashcroft. This is an obvious political ploy to A) keep people from focusing on why they SHOULDN't attack Iraq B) condition the public to think of "terrorism" everytime there is a Muslim holiday(use racism to divide). C) Crack down on the Anti-war movement. The second point of "General Measures for Federal Agencies" was to add security and possible cancel large events.

What upsets me most is that it's so obvious and the US public lets them get away with it.

I'm so upset, I can't write anymore.

It always strikes me as odd that there are never specifics and the alerts always seem so arbitrary. I agree completely. All about keeping the population scared and on board with the war effort.

The terror alert system in the US gives the govt the right to ethnically discrimiate against Islamic looking peoples!! Indo Canadians are told to leave US boarders or they are harassed by patrols and finger printed!!
I now feel nothing for USA interms of future possible terror attacks, they are digging their own graves by interfering in world politics, and siding with Isreal who commits acts of psudo-ethnicide against palistinians everyday!!! If USA attcks Iraq they are asking for a possible destabilizing of the entire middle east and a full scale war lauched by North Korea!!

It really is a joke. The alert coincides with the Feb. 15th demonstration in NY(which I will proudly be at) and all over the world and also with the Islamic Hajj. It only is serving the purpose to try and stop the march and to build up fear towards Islam.

they realise that their actions are going to raise the possiblities of retaliation by extremist groups as such.

if not them, then us; antiwar protests which could erupt into riots - all of which could be labeled as 'terrorist' acts of sorts, all participants stigmatised. maybe this is why they're telling people to avoid protests??
