Average.. I'm not sure exactly where he stays now, but for the first few decades he stayed in Celia Sanchez's little run down apartment in Havana most of the time.

He spends more time on the move and in his office than anywhere.

If you watch the documentary "Fidel" you can even see where his jeep brakes down and they have to get out and push.. what other world leader is in that position?

yea true thats a true revolutionary, like you see the majority of these politicians who advertise thy want to end world poverty bet yet they have like 3 mansions and like 5 big company cars, where thy could even just have 1 mansion and 1 car and donate the rest to actualy help prevent world poverty, anyway anyone saw the fidel castro documentary COMMANDANTE, coz i may buy it but i wanna know if its actualy knowlodgeable and non-biast, cheers

And he still has the libido of a twenty-eight year old.

Impressive.

When it comes to issues like Cuban revolution, I don't think there is a such thing as a neutral view. ;)

Watch it, but like with everything else, use critical thought to examine it.

If those politicians really believed in ending world poverty, they would have no mansions and no fancy Rolls-Royces. My take is that one cannot truly think like a proletariat and act for the good of the worker unless one has been a proletariat.

Yeah, it was put together by a communist group, but all those stats come from the sources listed on the bottom.

If anything the sources listed would be against Cuba, not for it.

I remember reading an article about this topic in the Miami Herald a few years back. The article says Fidel lives in a very modest house sparsely furnished and the only luxury he allows himself is a huge screen t.v. so he can watch Amerikan baseball games and international cable news like CNN.

You gave enough information there for me to google it up.

Fidel Castro's Family from the Miami Herald (http://www.latinamericanstudies.org/fidel/castro-family.htm)

I'd say Fidel's insistence on maintaining his privacy is good, not only compared to personality cults, but even compared to bourgeois-democratic politicians hauling their families up on stage to exploit them politically.

According to the article, there is a very modest degree of privilege, with fits with what is known about Cuban society generally. As the Herald says,

Added exile author Norberto Fuentes: "The most avaricious cabinet minister lives no better than the average Cuban in Miami. He has one car, not two. An air conditioner in the car? No air conditioner."

That is the same fucking article I was talking about. I don't believe you were able to get it. I was thinking about doing a search but using The Miami Herald website; then I thought better of it, thinking they were going to make me pay for reading the article since it was so far back. Damn, you can get anything with Google these days.

Yup, ya just need the right search terms. For this one, I put in "Miami Herald" Castro house big screen TV. That article was the third result from the top.

This is all very interesting. But is Castro doing this for political reasons or exploiting it for propaganda use? I have never heard him criticize other socialist leaders for living luxurious lives or brag about it so I'm he he must believe that self-sacrifice is expected of a socialist.

I remember when Forbes magazine said that Castro was one of the richest men in the world with a fortune of 550 million dollars! Hahaha! I think they took "state assests" into account. In other words everything that is publicly owned in Cuba was considered Castro's in the Forbes formula.

Anyone who is of the opinion that fidel castro lives luxuriously is completly off track. Castro is a bit of a revisionist, to some.
Castro and Cuba have very few resources. The most powerful economy, the USA has rejected the option of economic interchange with socialist/democratic/Cuba.

That sounds similar to allegations about Yasser Arafat that were around a few years ago. Though if he really had have been a millionaire, I doubt he would have had much chance to enjoy while the Israelis had him basically imprisoned in his own Ramallah compound.
