How would you be able to understand what they're saying? Unless its one of those thats translated before its released.

Japanese punk rock is fuckin brilliant.
There is this band called Slang another called Exclaim and if you're into the fat wreck chords style shit you should listen to Hi-Standars.
If you like Dub/Reggae listen to Dry and Heavy. I saw them live and it's maybe the best show i've ever seen.

Would Melt Banana count?
YES. That would most definitely count. They (http://www.level-plane.com/php/band_detail.php?band_id=34) are incredible. I don't have any of their cd's; I just have their 7" split with The Locust and a whole gaggle of Mp3's. Yes. They are incredible. Also, check out Envy (http://www.level-plane.com/php/band_detail.php?band_id=35). Watch out, though. There's this band called Envy that's really shitty and not Japanese (some american punk bullshit with the same name). Here's (http://www.epitonic.com/artists/envy.html) an Mp3 and some band info.

Uh...Asian Kung Fu Generation, maybe? Or Cool Joke? Onmyo-Za or Sex Machineguns may be good as well, I don't know.

Here's an article from Wikpedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_hardcore), apparently there is a real hardcore punk movement or something.

Polysics.
It's not really Punk (they do a cover of My Sharona, and I really don't think you could class that as even punk-esque), but more Electro-punk. Well worth the listen and the stage shows are phenomenal. I've never seen so much energy!

Anything that starts with 'dis' and is incredibly crap is 99% likely to be Japanese.
