Parades

Is it good? They are certainly wonderful, awe inspiring, totally gripping, exciting, 'wow' events - at least from what I have seen on TV/papers etc. Hitler used them, Stalin used them, Kim Jong uses them, WE use them. Do you think they are a good way of raising moral? Raising support? They are obviously masks/lies and very OTT but still..... Thoughts??

Actually, from my point of view, parades etc. in the UK certianly don't raise moral/ support from me, for me they just remind me that [who ever is running a parade] exists.

I play in a pipe band so I've been in a few parades (christmas, ANZAC day, other war ones, hipnocritical I know but I love the pipe band). Pictures I've seen of parades in the U.S.S.R and that do look really OTT but I think a socialist should comemerate events like May day or the victory of the revolution but some of them from North Korea for example just look fanatical, and fanatics scare me.

Yeah - parades did alot for the Nazis though, people said, "look!! They have wonderful uniforms! They have shiny boots! They all look so clean and brilliant!" (then they went off to Stalingrad...) They are all false but they capture the hearts of young people, they glorify everything and that opens to gates for anything.... The Romans used them! All you need is a massive parade - a wondeful Triumphal Arch - some games and you can do what ever you wish!

I think that parades just act as a way to draw positive attention to whoever is running it.

Over the top? I agree that North Korea kind of over does it, but the Soviet missle parades were basically just used to freak out the U.S and to show their own people how powerful they were.
