O'Hare transferred to Portlaoise prison
Dessie O'Hare has been transferred back to the maximum-security prison at Portlaoise following what the Prison Service has described as a breach of trust.
The so-called 'Border Fox' is serving a 40-year sentence for the kidnapping of Dublin dentist Mr John O'Grady in 1988.
He was caught with a mobile phone and a bag of pills hidden in his clothing.
He had just returned to the open prison section at Castlerea from Temporary release and the items were discovered when he was searched.
O'Hare was being released for short periods in preparation for his eventual release under the terms of the Good Friday agreement.
His release on licence has now been jeopardised.
A spokesman for the Prison Service confirmed this evening that O'Hare's security profile had been changed and that he had been moved out of the Grove Section of Castlerea - where prisoners live in houses rather than cells - to Portlaoise.

There's been a lot of repression directed at the IRSM lately. There has been increased marginalisation, the raids that damaged Costello House and shut down Teach Na Failte (ex prisoners association) putting around 14 people out of work, and now attempting to put another obstacle in the way of Dessie's freedom. Des is a qualifying prisoner for release under the terms of both the GFA and the INLA's ceasefire.
We need all the solidarity we can get right now. I'll post an address for people to write letters and I hope some will so we don't continue to be isolated.

What the fuck was he thinking? I'm all for solidarity with the IRSM but the Border Fox has no one but himself to blame for this latest setback. He'd probably have been out before Christmas if he hadn't screwed this up.

So you are asking for solidarity with someone who goes around kidnapping dentists? Why? ;)

The bourgeoisie have a right to keep people in prison because they have a phone ... ?
Pills? This is the usual bullshit. They raided the IRSP and TnF offices because of 'criminality'. The fact that there was nothing illegal found doesn't matter. It's all excuses.

If Dessie was stupid enough to actually have these pills and a phone on him in defiance of the prison rules then he has no one to blame for his continued incarceration than himself.
And considering the political expenditure the Irish government has been spending on preparing him for release I don’t think they’d be too keen to botch it now.

What was the justification in kidnapping this man anyway?

What's that got to do with anything?
Des made a terrible mistake which he admitted to, but the dentist was a rich man who give a lot of money to the Fine Gael party who've murdered almost as many republicans as the Brits. Des was being hounded by the SAS who had killed most of his comrades. It's not right, but this kind of moralism is unmarxist in the extreme. Des has already served many years anyway.

You must live on another planet. The government as only made concessions because of IRSM protests and even then very limited.
Two more "socialists" trying to justify the oppression of the bourgeois state. Not a word from you or your faction condemning the recent raids against us. This petite-bourgeois shit make me sick.

PRESS STATEMENT : RE, DESSIE O’HARE TRANSFER
In response to the recent sensationalist press reporting in the tabloids regarding Dessie O’Hare, A spokesperson for the Free Dessie O’Hare Campaign stated, “The Free Dessie O’Hare Campaign will not be deflected by the recent malicious gutter press journalism concerning the recent transfer of Dessie O’Hare from Castlerea Prison Co Roscommon to Portlaoise Prison Co Laois.
The facts concerning Dessie’s transfer to Portlaoise are as follows, “After returning from temporary release on Wednesday 16th, Prison Officers searched his hand luggage and found alcohol which was contained in two lucozade bottles, in a cosmetic bag they found two sleeping pills and when he was strip searched a mobile phone was recovered. After a disciplinary hearing Dessie was informed that he was been transferred to Portlaoise”.
The public would be better served if the media concentrated on highlighting the continued refusal of the Irish Government to release Dessie O’Hare as a qualifying Prisoner under the terms of the Good Friday agreement, instead of engaging in sensationalist headlines of no substance which only purpose is to demonize Dessie O'Hare and further add to the continuing torment of Dessie’s, wife Claire and there two Children.

At this time of night I really couldn't be arsed looking up facts and figures so if you can supply me with the number of times that the Border Fox has been allowed leave his cushy prison in the past year then I'll accept them. While you're at it have a look at the bourgeois papers and the fit they have whenever Dessie's released on leave.
I'd also be grateful if you could give a reason why Bertie should give a fuck about the IRSM when the only Republican party that'll be taking seats from his party is Sinn Fein. You ever consider that Bertie's been trying to brush up on his Republican credentials by releasing O'Hare?
And for the record I’ve never been one to shit on any socialist movement on this isle. After all, its not as if Ireland has too many of them. I also happen to support the release of all Republican prisoners of war. But I’ll not defend some fool trying to smuggle alcohol and a phone into prison when otherwise he’d be out within the year. Face it, Dessie fucked up this time.

yeah, I'm gonna take the Free State's word on the situation.
I don't believe them. Nor do I care as having a few sleeping pills and a cell phone should not be a crime at all, as Des shouldn't be imprisoned in the first place.

So O’Hare hasn’t been released numerous times on leave? Wasn’t he caught returning from such a break? I’m not exactly going on Lenister House press releases here…

In an ideal world there wouldn't be prisons at all but we don't live in that world. If O'Hare wanted to make a political statement then fair enough, he'll be in jail for Christmas. That's the price for making such a statement against the bourgeois state. Personally I think he was just being stupid.

Well you were asking for solidarity with someone. It isn't the usualy policy to ask for solidarity with people who go around kidnapping, so i was wondering exactly what the situation was. I'm not justifying the birts at all, but the man made this mistake, and he has to serve a sentence for it. Anyone who goes around kidnapping people has to serve a prision sentence, surley thats just common sense?

As I said above I support the release of all Republican prisoners of war. At the same time I've no intention of making excuses when one of them gets his sentence extended for some easily avoidable offence of the prison rules.
