I was reading some Dr. Noam Chomsky (I forgot the link) and he said something that opened my mind. What happens when you destroy a city's entire sewage and water systems? The U.S. with its bombs will cause mass murder of "soft targets" or if you prefer "collateral damage."

saddam has been known to bomb cavilian targets in baghdad himself and blame american forces so it will be hard to say who causes any collateral damage.

Even if he did, I think he would never try to take out his own powerplants and water systems, they're vital to sustaining the war effort. However, the coalition will target these facilities and it will cause a massive humanitarian chrisis because of lack of clean drinking water, that is to say a lack of electricity to run water purification plants..

why would he not take out his own water systems? he and the people that matter would have their own supply. he wouldnt hesitate for one second, it would be the perfect propaganda exercise. the us planes bombing and cutting off the cavilian water supply, the world would be shocked

hawarameen: he's gonna need to sustain an army of at least one million men, and the first targets of coalition bombers will be his private stash of water and electricity. I doubt he'll be able to afford losing any resources he can use to keep his soldiers supplied behind the lines.

at least 900,000 of that million would lay down their arms at the first opportunity as shown in the gulf. i really think that saddam knows he will loose, i cant imagine he thinks he will win, for him i think its all about making iraq into another vietnam. he cant win the armed war but he will definately try and win the propaganda one

If the Americans go into Baghdad which has 5 million people it will be another Mogadishu, Somalia but worse. Mogadishu has 900,000 people. Baghdad 5 million. The U.S. will want to drop bombs to terrorize the people of Baghdad but see "Black Hawk Down"---- the people of the third world will not take it up the ass without a fight.

There is a good article on perhaps similar themes in this thread.

Yeah, I know that site. Thanks. It's just to search all the interviews and articles, etc. would be time consuming. Anyway thanks. So how is Argentina? Does a revolution
seem to be in the making. I heard that traitor Menem is running for office again. I hope the Argentines have learned.

What I think will be ironic, but somewhat poetic justice [not that I want American Soldiers, or anyone to die] will be if the US goes in and gets their asses kicked. It doesn't sound like that would happen, but nobody thought our technologically superior army could be damaged in Vietnam. But they sure took a beating from the "Unseen" enemy. I dunno, just a thought.

Vietnam was very different for many reasons. They were fighting in terrain they had little experience or training with and the dense jungle made their technical superiority irrelevant.

Also, since then the technical superiority of the US army over other armies has multiplied, in the late sixties there wasn't such a huge gap.
