Can anyone summarize for me exactly who Mao Tse-tung is? (besides the fact that hes Chinese and was the first communist leader there) i have attempted to read books about him, but do not have a lot of time for reading.

Mao Zedong was a communist revolutionary in China after the collapse of the Qing dynasty and the birth of the Republic of China. Through guerrila and later conventional warfare, he was able to overthrow the dictator Chiang Kai-Shek in 1949. Because of his stress that the peasantry was similar to the proletarians and could serve as the foundation for a communist revolution, he created a new form of communism that is now called Maoism or Mao Zedong thought. However, in the later years of his life, his policies caused widespread instability and turmoil as can be seen by the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution. As a result of this, the Chinese government has made a clear distinction between Mao the person and Mao Zedong thought: Mao was a great person but still a human and susceptible to error but Mao Zedong thought is infallible. Currently, many Chinese, particularly those untouched by the wealth that has flowed into China, believe that Mao's vision has been corrupted by the reforms of Deng Xiaoping and his successors.

Communist revolution is impossible in a country with a peasant majority. Socialism maybe, but communism no; that is only possible in the first world.

Comrade Qiu put it well. But I think the idea that Maoism is "infallible" is a bit off-center.

However, I was surprised to hear (from many sources) that many Chinese want to revert to an actual Maoist state. Something very interesting considering how they can see what actually happened through the Chinese propaganda.

Actually, I think its funny in its stupidity. It obviously suggest that Stalin controlled Mao. Funny thing is Mao refused orders from the Comintern (Stalin) to even begin the people's war and carry it out!

It's like saying Castro controls Hugo Chavez -- NOT!

Exactly. Take the Tiananmen Square Massacre for example. The bourgeoisie would have us believe that it was an effort by "democratic" and "liberal" students to destroy communism, but in fact Maoist workers were very important within it.

Mao is one of the semi-historical figures which come from the tales of legendary Chinese communism in the ancient history.

Thus, this thread belongs in the religion forum.

From Comrade Qui

Mao was a great person but still a human and susceptible to error but Mao Zedong thought is infallible.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

That is soooo rich. What theological language. Anybody have one of those tools you use to extract a head from someone's ass? I think Comrade Qui needs to borrow it.

Quit flaming. It just makes you look like you're incapable of formulating a real response.

I think Qui meant to put forward the "official" line of the Chinise Communist Party - not necessarily represent its own views.

In one sense, I think it is defensible that Maoist "method", and particularly the formula "Unity-Criticism-Unity" is dynamic enough that one could stretch definations to call it "infalible in the long run" - though the question of its thorough application remains.

I'm sorry, it's just that I was raised Catholic and so this was a knee-jerk response to the concept of infallibility. I suppose if the Pope is infallible when speaking on faith and morals, Mao Zedong thought can be in fallible. What's good for the goose...

Your poor reading skills go hand in hand with your ignorance, Red Powers. You misinterpreted my statement. I don't actually believe the propaganda of the CCP; I was just stating their view of Mao. Despite the fact that Mao was a great military leader and hero, his political ideas are very fallible. After all, Maoism is just a mix of different ideas from Marxism to Confucianism. I'm sorry that I didn't make this clear but next time, I'll be sure to make my quick summaries more complex and longer in order to allow less knowledgeable people a better understanding.

Dude, why did you post that link? Are there not any better ones?

"...After his death, leaders like Deng Xiaoping steered the country away from pure communism and the Cult of Mao began to disappear."

Away from pure communism!
