Israeli professor says 'We could destroy all European capitals'
Occupied Jerusalem: 1 February, 2003 (IAP News)

An Israeli professor and military historian hinted that Israel could avenge the holocaust by annihilating millions of Germans and other Europeans.

Speaking during an interview which was published in Jerusalem Friday, Professor Martin Van Crevel said Israel had the capability of hitting most European capitals with nuclear weapons.

"We possess several hundred atomic warheads and rockets and can launch them at targets in all directions, perhaps even at Rome. Most European capitals are targets of our air force."

Creveld, a professor of military history at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, pointed out that "collective deportation" was Israel's only meaningful strategy towards the Palestinian people.

"The Palestinians should all be deported. The people who strive for this (the Israeli government) are waiting only for the right man and the right time. Two years ago, only 7 or 8 per cent of Israelis were of the opinion that this would be the best solution, two months ago it was 33 per cent, and now, according to a Gallup poll, the figure is 44 percent."

Creveld said he was sure that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon wanted to deport the Palestinians.

"I think it's quite possible that he wants to do that. He wants to escalate the conflict. He knows that nothing else we do will succeed."

Asked if he was worried about Israel becoming a rouge state if it carried out a genocidal deportation against Palestinians, Creveld quoted former Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Dayan who said "Israel must be like a mad dog, too dangerous to bother."

Creveld argued that Israel wouldn't care much about becoming a rouge state.

"Our armed forces are not the thirtieth strongest in the world, but rather the second or third. We have the capability to take the world down with us. And I can assure you that that this will happen before Israel goes under."

Read the responses that have been made in relation to the original post. Something quite beautiful happened upon that forum. I wish we had some of their members.

And this was just sweet to read: "The fact that they claim to have the airforce targeting European capitals should put them in Rogue state status. Yet we consider countries who may or may not have such capabilities as rogue states." (c/- the forummer named T-Bone.)

Yeah, they could do that, but they'd last about a minute and twenty seconds after the first nuclear explosion.

I doubt those statistics are correct, but they might be. They would be unfortunate if 44% were willing to "deport" the Palestinians. This shows how racist and prejudice some of these people. I hate Ariel Sharon.

I do not think that they will make a so awfully thing!!! everyone knows that a war like this will destroy our planet or at least destroy the life on it.

If they would use Nuclear weapons, they would be hit back immediately by the UK, France and possibly even Russia, US and China.

I "agree" with the Israeli professor...that is, I think his summary of Israeli strategy is accurate.

The possible consequences are difficult to predict...though I think it unlikely that any country will go to war on behalf of the displaced Palestinians.

I think it quite possible that Israel will be regarded in much the same way as the old regime in the Union of South Africa...a "semi-rogue" state that no one will wish to have much to do with, except, of course, the United States. And even American tourists will stop going there...it's just a little too much, even for American sensibilities (or lack thereof).

It's interesting, if a bit bloody-minded, to speculate on the future of the Israeli Empire...after the expulsion of the Palestinians. Will they develop a full-fledged "racial" ideology like the Germans did? Will they develop significant territorial ambitions...perhaps taking over Kuwait or one of the other Gulf kingdoms?

I can certainly see the possibility of a "limited" nuclear war in the Middle East...but I don't think Europe will be involved.

Funny, every time I write about the Middle East, I have to go wash my hands afterwards...I feel dirty.
