Hey Everyone,
As you all know i usually don't post a lot..i get sorta intimidated here..idk why really.
anyway, im not sure how this will go over with everyone..but i need advice.
I go to a school In PA, im a junior there...it sucks, but...thats not my point
im trying to get coca cola out of my school, im one of those people who boycott it.
i havent much luck, they wont let me speak at a school board meeting, they wont let me see the contact (which is by the way supposed to be pub record).
ive been in the office, the buisness office, and my peace links group is behing me..but that doesnt get me far.
killer coke sent me a campaign booklet..many of my commie friends left me to fend for myself...ive been threatened by they administration...everyone tells me to give up...but i cant, i believe in this too much.
i just sent out flyers on thrs..some kids were pretty pissed, but some were like thats cool..but its not gna happen good luck bec.
? any advice
sorry to bother anyone
but thank you for talking the time to read this

Well, the most important pieceo of advie I have is, Don't give up no matter what people say. Try as hard as you can to get the backing of the the students, and maybe even a few of the teachers. Anyways, good luck!

hey there! it's too bad you feel intimidated, and don't be apologetic about posting or asking questions :) you have as much right to be here as any of us
one of the things that i would suggest is coming up with an alternative to coke, and list the benefits for doing so. people tend to respond better when their work has been done for them beforehand. it's very likely though that your school has a contract with coke and until it's close to running out and its time to renew/ditch it, they won't even talk to you.
i guess getting the support of other students is your best bet here. even if your commie friends left you to fend for yourself, try and get them back on board by talking to them one on one about why you think coke shouldbe boycotted. bring it up as often as you can in class [but not unless its somewhat relevant to the discussion or people will start dismiss your ideas] and try and guage other student's opinions on it. maybe even bring it in through other issues, such as human rights or trade unions or neoloberalism.
while i'm mostly for radical direct action, i don't know how much effect that will have in junior high, particularly as it could get you suspended/expelled. so maybe try less radical methods such as petitions etc and if that doesnt work then try and organise sit-ins, speak outs in front of the school, anything else you think could mobilise support from the student body.

Thank you so much.
Tomorrow i am starting a petition so i can see the contract.
its up in 2008, and yes i bring up all those issues.
I have the support of 1 teacher- its a start.
i guess i feel a little alone, it gets a bit overwelming

yeah, it can feel like that. i can't imagine having to do something like that on my own. i mean, even among most leftie crowds most ppl wont want to boycott products even if they disagree with the company because they dont see it helping. and i admit, on an individual scale it can seem like that. but losing one contract, and then another, and then more, knowing the reasons for why theyre losing these contracts, could have an effect.
all the best! :)

Good for you, coke took over my high school too. Maybe if I was as aware as a teen as you I could have stopped it too.

We don't sell any sodas at our school and my religion teacher is trying to get all of the bad food with chemicals in it out of school. Oh yeah and find or make some creative anti-coke flyers that will catch students attentions. Paste them up around the school. And don't feel too intimidated to post here, [most] of us are nice people.

Perhaps you could do a science experiment/demonstration.
My friend is a handyman and he keeps some coke in his tool box.
You can safely remove battery acid from the terminals on your car battery by soaking a rag in Coke and letting it sit on the acid for 5 minutes. The Coke will eat the acid. It is also handy for removing rust from tools/nails.
Coke can clean a dirty toilet and will unclog your plugged up drain.
I have heard that the vile beverage can also eat away fresh asphalt but I havent tried that yet.
Good luck!

Then they're shitty communists.
I wouldn't put it to them in those terms exactly, but, the fact is, if they won't act in solidarity with Colombian workers in this simple way, they're just high school kids looking for attention, and not revolutionaries.
Coincidently, I'm reminded of a song . . . (http://www.geocities.com/itsraygunomics/lcokedosecolombia.html)

Some facts you can put on any fliers:
It is worse for a human body to drink a bottle of coke every day, then a bottle of beer...
Coke makes people hyper, and will make concentration worse. which is very bad when sold in any kind of school!
Thats all i have but really push for what you think is right! :hammer:

It's also able to dissolve TEETH and has been used as a cleaner for car engine parts.
Might taste nice every now and again but it isnt very good for you!
Just because people dont die of coca cola cancer its not noted for being a killer or anything, but if you go on joke websites it lists the amount of things coke can dissolve and it's treated as funny?? Scary, more like ...

Actually, im sorry to say it takes longer than a night to dissolve teeth. I was watching Braniac on Shy one, and all that happend was that it went abit black...so it might be a conspiracy? :hammer:

If I was you I would list the benifits of coca cola in school: Money and well yes money, oh and some people like it. (they can't talk about lack of choice, because this contract has an oppurtunity cost; that is another possble contract)
Then the downsides:It is an unhealthy beverage, it rots teeth, sugar is generally not needed by teenagers and this will affect their concentration, the treatment of, and anti-union tactics towards bottling workers, increased chance of terrorist attck (coca cola is a sign of American Imperialism...they would love that one) I could go on.
You get the point, you may not win but you can sure make them look bad. When it comes doen to the fact that they are putting your life in danger because of money it would be the duty of parents and teachers to question this sytem.
You can beat it, but only from a certain angle. I had very similar occurances at my school, with advertising and vending machines.

when I was about 8 or 9 and I started growing my adult teeth... when one of my baby teeth came out I decided to put it in a kinda petri dish like thing full of coca cola... I left it for nearly a month probably... believe me, that stuff ate away at my little tooth...
