I just saw all six episodes in one sitting. And might I say: amazing.

The entire series is based around a kid and his boring life in a boring town... and that's when an girl on a vespa hits him, he starts getting robots popping out of his head, and he finds out there is a mystery about the Medical Meccanica plant in his town that encompasses the universe.

This might sound like a stupid random anime. And I will admit, if you see the episodes in solidarity -- it is. Nothing special, just random robots, intermixed chibi animation in parts, and big haired space fiends. But when seen in its entirety... something shows up from underneath the surface.

An anti-capitalist metaphor seeps through. A yearning for revolution. A call for action.

I recommend it to any anime fan, whose will to put 3 hours on the line (a 6 episode series, can be found on DVD for cheap) and you won't be dissapointed.

Seriously? I kinda never would figure that... Watch one episode and I was all 'neehh.'

Though the episode I DID watch showed a girl wearing a USSR sweatshirt. Hmm...

When your in the game, and making art, you have to sell it to have it reach a wider audience. The appeal of Fooly Cooly is that it is so zany if you don't pay attention, that it has a mainstream appeal, along with its sly commentary.

When I first watched it I never noticed any metaphors... So after you said there was a deeper meaning I re-watched the entire thing and...

I was shocked!

It's so obvious! I don't want to give anything away but the MM and the whole ironing concept is such a blatent metaphor for modern corperations I feel stupid for not realizing it before. Yeah, I recommend this to everyone that likes anime and would like to see some not-so-subtle jabs at capitalism.
