Ha'avoda (Israeli Labor Party) Elected Amir Peretz, chairman of the trade unions, to it's chairman.
Shimon Peres, the 82 years old neo-liberal, who was the chairman until this mourning, lost.
There is now a social-democratic party in Israel. Good for us.

Great, hopefully they will become a force and get rid of the war mongering Likuud in your country.

Sounds good. How left wing is this trade unionist?

In Europe, he would be considered to be part of the right-wing of the Social-Democracy. He supports "free market with a soul".
In Israel, that's alot more than what we've come to expect from mainstream politicians.

Not left enough but let's hope it's a start.

I think the Democrats are further to the left than this guy.
On a side note what stance does he take on the Palestinian issue?

He's stand on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is Zionist, yet positive: he believe we shouldn't occupy them, and he's recognized with movments like "Peace Now".
No, I don't think the Democrats are to the left of Peretz. But he's no commie (otherwise he'd be with us in the Israeli Communist Party).
Him being elected is more important than him - now all politicians in Israel started talking about how poverty sucks. Before, the ICP was alone in the social struggle, and now we're part of a political camp. That's a nice feeling.
