I noticed that I hadn't seen a Buckley discussion, at least with in recent memory. I had a couple of EPs but I just got Grace and am trying to decide what I think. Some of the guitar sounds are pretty sweet and I won't say he can't sing. Any one have any oppinions on this guy?

One of the great tragedies of the 1990s was that we never got to know Jeff Buckley's music any better, in my opinion. The guy had a great voice and was a brilliant lyricist.

i LOOOOVE jeff buckley. he had lots of style on his guitar and in his voice (which was like honey, by the way). and he was a total hawtie. by all means he should have died young. in the sense that as people get older their stuff just changes. i really do lament his passing.

Care to give some background information on him? I'm not familiar with him myself.

My favourite singer, Grace is a really beautiful album. Shows some real eclectic styles - from the hard rock power of Eternal Life to the ever-eeriness of Hallelujah.

Brilliant singer, brilliant album. As ForumIdiot said Hallelujah will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up and 'Eternal Life' is as good metal as anything any Metallica has done.

He was part of the early 90's avant-garde scene, mixing styles with solo guitar playing. Adored by critics and fans alike until his tragically early death in 1997. Cool, haunting singer, definitely worth checking out.

if you want a true appreciation of Grace,
turn out the lights, light some candles, and just chill out

Yea, its really weird to try falling asleep to it, I mean, waking up to Forget Her from Mojo Pin is just weird...

To be honest I just like playing Buckley when I'm in the mood for it and sing along to Eternal Life. It really is a killer song.

Man, nothing better than smoking a joint, turning out the lights and listening to Halleluja.

I adore that song, especially when he sings it.

Lol...I'll try it on E some time. I would have a joint but weed's pricey and I can't have it in my house. And anyways, ecstasy'll draw out all the weird emotions and love and stuff...Hmm...that's next sunday planned... Yum...drugs'n'music.

Is anyone else slightly reminded of Joy Division with Jeff Buckley? Its hard to explain but I think they're kind of similar with the lyrical themes and the focuse on an eerie atmosphere rather than good instrumentals.

I am not sure I agree, whilst Joy Division weren't always the most instrumentally driven group, and both them and Buckley can pull off the eerie thing, Jeff Buckley was spot on instrumentally. He wasn't always the most technical, howeverhe was fairly flawless. I just see the two as different.

I see what you mean, but I didn't mean to imply Buckley was instrumentally sloppy, I meant that the focus is on the eeriness not the instrumentals.
