Could any of you list the crimes of the various modern imperialistic countries? Such as America, obviously, and others. The obvious war in Iraq comes to mind... but the rest? It'd be useful to have a list of real facts (rather than the obvious capitalistic exploitation, since some people don't see it like that). Thank you comrades.

I'm not sure if you're looking for more contemporary examples

But one of the most striking and curiously most unknown events of this century:

The Nanking Massacre

Is a sad portrayal of the vicious maws of Japanese imperialism.
Real shame. Not to be taken lightly.

(Warning: Graphic images will be found if you do much delving)

I wish I had decent links but I really don't.
Perhaps a few other enterprising comrades might be able to better facilitate you.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanking_massacre

That'll give you a decent outlook.

Chomsky books usually have good information on these crimes.

Anyway heres some you may want to look into.

American Crimes -

Vietnam, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Korea, there are many more. Another one was the bombing of a pharmaceutical company, I can't remember the country but around 1 million people died due to lack of access to the medicine that company provided.

Britain -

Falklands, Kosovo, Afghanistan. Again there are more, I just can't remember them all.

Other countries will have a long list of crimes post World War Two.

Ireland, mostly because of insane counter-insurgency and 'counter-terrorist' operations that inevitably ended in either confusion or conspiracy and death.

Also, in Iraq the Brits seem to be attempting some sort of 'counter-gang' strategy akin to that which they used in Ireland and Kenya that is used to discredit the freedom fighters.

The best book on American imperialism that I have read thusfar has to be William Blum's "Rogue State."

It is superb.

The United States' existance is illegal all on its own! So technically its entire history is a big crime. From the Trail of Tears to the Iraqi occupation its been nothing but crimes.

here's something i put together for www.fuckauthority.org , dealing strictly with american crimes:

Introduction to Anti-Imperialism
Over the last 100 years, millions upon millions of people have died at the hands of American imperialism. Imperialism is the policy of extending a nation’s economic, political, and military authority by conquest. For centuries, European powers engaged in imperialistic wars throughout the world, murdering millions of people, subjugating native populations under colonial rule, forcing people of other cultures to assimilate into the western tradition, and plundering the entire world of its vital resources. To site one particularly horrendous example of European imperialism, between 1880 and 1920, the Belgians murdered over 10 million in Congo in their slave camps, ˝ of that country’s population.

Since World War II the United States has become the leading imperial power. During this period, the US government has murdered millions of people while attempting to secure dominance over resources and markets and to expand its global system. Consider the cost of American imperialism (these are only a few of the countless examples):

· Nearly Three Million (2,800,000) were murdered during the US invasion of Korea

· As many as Five Million (5,000,000) were murdered during the US invasion of Vietnam

· The US sent 1.5 million dollars in aid every day for nine years to the government of El Salvador while it viciously murdered 75,000 of its own civilians and created 2 million refugees in a country of only 5 million. The UN Truth Commission ruled that the campaign was ‘genocidal.’

· The US provided extensive military support to the Indonesian dictator General Suharto while he systematically killed 400,000 Indonesian peasants, and during his invasion of the neighboring country East Timor in which approximately 300,000 were butchered, somewhere between 1/3 and ˝ of the pre-invasion population.

· The US has staged or backed many coups against democratically elected leaders with policies that threatened US economic interests and has replaced them with extremely oppressive dictators who were willing to do business with the US. This happened in Indonesia, Iran, Guatemala, Haiti, Brazil, Chile, and most recently in Nepal.

· The US is the only country in the world that has used nuclear weapons against civilians, killing nearly 700,000 Japanese civilians.

· The US was allied with apartheid South Africa, during its campaign of ethnic cleansing against black Africans, and continues to send $3 billion a year to Israel, engaged in a similar campaign of ethnic cleansing against Palestinians.

· The US has a long history of supporting tyrants and dictators in the Middle East with enormous amounts of aid, including, at one point, both Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein. It continues to support the most oppressive dictators in the Middle East and the worst human rights violators, for example, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Jordan, Pakistan, and Egypt. Despite its rhetoric, the US is still the greatest obstacle to the creation of a democratic Middle East.

· The US has engaged in ‘economic terrorism’ against countries with policies adverse to American interest. For instance, nearly 500,000 Iraqi children under the age of 5 starved to death due solely to American sanctions on the country, which forbid the sale of food or medicine to Iraq. This was a price which, as Madeline Albright said on 60 Minutes, ‘we [were] willing to pay.’ Saddam Hussein actually benefited from the sanctions, which crushed much of the resistance to his rule within the country.

In addition to causing millions upon millions of deaths world wide, this imperialism also costs America at home. Consider the Pentagon’s 2004 budget, which was over 400 billion dollars (not including the billions being spent daily during continued occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan). That means that the government spent more on the military than on everything else combined, including education, health care, welfare, AIDS/HIV research, college grants, and social security. The US spends more on its military than all other countries in the world combined, and has troops stationed in over 140 countries around the world.

This is the awful price of American imperial conquests, which have been fought to control resources and markets for American corporations. Before you attempt to rationalize these murderous atrocities, reflect on the magnitude of the death toll due to American imperialism. Remember, any society can rationalize and defend its own atrocities within its own social framework; even the Nazi’s crimes could be explained within their society. Try to understand how these vicious imperialistic campaigns appear from outside our society.

If you do not feel that millions should be slaughtered to secure the interests of billionaires, you can do something about it. Tell people that you know about the evils of American imperialism, become a tax resister, vote for anti-imperialists, etc.

certainly not a complete listing...

Take your pic starting with countries that are still in existence: the slaughter of millions of indigeneous peoples by Columbus and the Conquistadors, up to the current occupation of Iraq.

the pharmacuetical company was in Sudan.
there was never a precise estimate as to its human toll, but it was expected to be in the tens of thousands.

speaking of sudan, the US has also offered a degree of diplomatic support for the current genocidal regime..i wrote about it for znet:
