I don't entirely understand the post, but the pictures are nice.
Is it that they were taken recently?

They are paintings during the years of cultural revolution in China. (1960s-70s)
It was the "haydays" for the revolutionary youth. I mean, you literally go out there and make it YOUR WAY. Sky's the limit.

Wow...paintings, you say? :o
Damm...they look as though they are photographs or something...the colours, details, light and shadow are superb. :) Who is the painter?

LOL Ideals, come on! lets concentrate on those, shall we?
I mean look at them...whenever I look at them I fantacize being able to dream, to rebel, and then to achieve your dreams!
Maybe I'm overly romanticizing it but this is what making us radical, this is what seperate us apart from the lifeless walking piles of shit thats ruling over us, such as the guys in the senate.
Anyways this is how I really feel...it touches me, the reminiscence.

There was this sentiment against the "Bourgeoisie ideals of Beauty".
Was it wrong? I dont know. But one thing's for sure women back then didn't have to capitalize on their looks to make a living.

They are wearing army uniforms, got the same hairdo's...individuality is being fucked...and all cuz Mao wanted to purge some annoying fucks in the CP.
hmm they are cute though, and great paintings nonetheless ;)

Strikingly realistic paintings. I think they look good, but that's just me. I like the ones with the guns.

They look sad and stressed to me, like they don't want to be there.

Indeed. Although, it would be much better if there was a dead body of a capitalist on the ground with some blood leaking out of his head and some money next to his dead body.
Just my opinion.

Eh...that we are young and energetic? Maybe just not you :P

It's not like what you wear is the only form of expression--it's what you say, and more importantly what you do.
and all cuz Mao wanted to purge some annoying fucks in the CP.
You dont know thta...neither do I.
They look sad and stressed to me, like they don't want to be there.
Hmmm...they dont seem sad to me but rather calm. That gives you a great deal of emotion considering what they do everyday.
it would be much better if there was a dead body of a capitalist on the ground with some blood leaking out of his head and some money next to his dead body.
I assure you, there was no shortage of that!

She still seems feminine tho...or do you have a thing for that? :D
Yeah I like that one too. But I also like the first one, where the girl is reading a book. It disproves what they tell you about the youth back then---naive, uneducated and stupid. I was always suspecious of that.
Hey---it seems to me that the first and second painting took place in the same spot!

Hey, that's a good idea for a painting though...I think I'll do something like that and upload it. :)

I don't believe they are from the Cultural Revolution. If they are from that period, they aren't painted by a Chinese national.
They don't match the art of the cultural revolution, first point being they had big cartoon like pictures. These are some of the first that look so realistic. They normally had a solgan, a picture of Mao or something similar. Also the poses don't match. Most pictures of the cultural revolution had people shouting, helping people or raised fists.
If they are indeed from the Cutlural Revolution then they are a rare style.

But there were paintings made that weren't propaganda.

quoting moi on RA forum:
The style looks Chinese. The Russian influence(which is common among most Chinese works produced from 1950-1980) is reduced to a minimum amount (even though still sensible).
I'm having doubts as to when it was painted. If it was indeed painted before the 80s, the presence of Russian artistic influence should be stronger.
It is definately Chinese. The question in when was it done.
And of course, even though propaganda was a mainstream art form, it's not all there is to it.
China like most former socialist countries support tons of artists, such as my father.

He was the grandson of a landlord...which was NOT a good thing to be associated with. So he didn't seem as "hip" as the others.
He painted many propaganda tho.
My mom was the daughter of a revolutionary (former vice mayor of the city I came from) but she was not into politics--especially after her father was thought of as the oppressor class.

Wow you have a revolutionary legacy
If it's possible, could you get a hand on some of your father's stuff and scan it in? I'd love to see his work. :)
Oh BTW what's your avatar about? Is the bear jacking off into Tom's face or something? :o

none of them survived. his propaganda paintings are all on the wall. All of his paintings he did before the age of 40 were no longer ours---stolen, donated to the university or given to friends.
now he only paints nature and nudity--I dont have any of his work on my computer.
edit:

They were not just "annoying fucks." They were revisionists who eventually restored capitalism in China, and exiled/imprisoned/executed all of the real communists within the Chinese Communist Party. These were the fucks in charge of the Tiananmen Square massacre.
The restoration of capitalism and the capitalist roaders were not to be taken lightly.

I don't know much about Communist China back in the day, but I heard there was this controversy between some people involved in the Cultural Revolution and some other folks who used the colour "red" for use on the Stop sign, and that all this occured because the people involved in the Cultural Revolution thought that their colour was too great to put on a Stop sign...I don't know if I have everything correct above, but it was something to that effect. Can someone tell me more about this?
