I wanted to get some opinions on what people think Che Guevara would think of the political, economic, and social conditions of Cuba today were he alive today.

While I do not consider myself to be a great scholar of Guevara, or the Cuban Revolution for that matter I would have to think that Cuba was taken in a totally different direction than he would have wanted.

Cuba is still fighting imperialism like Che wanted, and under the curcumstances Cuba is doing very well. So whats wrong with Cuba?

So what?

Cuba has had 15 years without a major trading partner and 40 years of a trade embargo. Considering these two factors it is quite surprising that its not in a worse state. In fact its a credit to Socialism that you don't see the same problems in Cuba that you see in other third world countries with trade links with America.

I think Che would have liked to see the working class seize power in Cuba as an inspiration to the entire working class and peasantry of Latin America which would in turn start the process of a permanent world revolution.

He wouldn't like to see a country which is becoming more and more capitalist by the day with tourists stuffing themselves with lobster whilst farmers are still using rakes and hoes and are unable to buy even a pint of milk.

Excellent points. Like I said, a lot of this stuff is new to me and I appreciate your opinions. For what it's worth I think the trade embargo is ridiculous...

He didn't like what was happening 30 years ago- why would he like what was happening now?

Che is dead. We’ll never know what he’d have made of Cuba today and its absolutely pointless to dwell on the subject. You might as well ask what Marx would’ve made of capitalism's continued existence or Lenin’s opinion on the USSR. Sure we can make guesses as to what they’d feel, but that’s all they are… guesses.
