here they come :D

edit: some background to the action - australia has really really horrible refugee laws which completely contravene basic human rights, and it's mandatory detentions centres are a model which is sadly spreading to other sections of the world. the night before this action, a student who was in villawood dentention centre in sydney who was in there because he had overstayed his visa by 3 days and had been on a hunger strike, got deported. the original reason for this action though was because on 28/10/05 it was a national day of protest for refugees in lombok, indonesia (http://www.melbourne.indymedia.org/news/2005/10/98161.php) [the melbourne indymedia site, not sydney, but abt the same issue]

anyways so we had an speakout outside dimia [Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs]

much fun. but my camera ran out of battery about 10 minutes in :( need to find my charger...

this guy was like the coolest guy ever... he said exactly what he thought about dimia, exactly what he thought about the cops, and exactly what he thought about the govt - no mincing words, no diplomacy, just said it. it was glorious. and he finished off with "and we all know what dimia REALLY stands for don't we? deport immediately, maybe investigate after

it was funny to see the reactions of the ones he was targeting :D

Cool pictures. :) I'm sorry to hear about all the refugee situation over there.

Is it just me or are there a lot of protests over there in Australia? I'm sorry if this sounds a bit idiotic, but there are virtually none important here in Trinidad where I live, except for the recent Death march in the capital about crime.

I'm taking a guess here...the chick in the shades in the first picture is you, right? :)

haha nono, im in none of the protest photos i put on this site cos im always the one taking them ;)

hmmmmm there are a fair few, especially lately considering how reactionary and oppressive the state is becoming...

speaking of which, at 'reclaim the night' on friday night the cops were SUCH fuckers.. they were all male [really weird, there are usually at least a few female ones] and all of them were trying to push us away from parked cars [what did they think we were gonna do, scratch them?] and laughing at us and jeering and just being really fucking chauvinistic. like they were trying to intimidate us or some bullshit
