the other nite i watched a documentary on the nazi regime's links to the swiss banks.
first of all, it claimed that the swiss involvement in the war actually prolonged the war. first of all it was stated that the german deutchsmark (sp?) was not accepted anywhere outside of German except Switzerland. And so the Germans kept sending in money to switzerland.
they also argued that the swiss continued to supply the germans with war supplies so that they wouldn't be invaded by the nazis. they also returned jewish people to germany, knowing full well that these jews would be sent back to the camps.
the biggest thing was the profit of the swiss banks from the death of so many jews. many jewish people fled germany and austria with as much money and such possessions they could find. they thought tha as long as they have money they would have some way of surviving. everyone has their price at which they would be even help a jew after all. many arrived in switzerland and deposited their money into bank accounts there (in nazi territories jews weren't allowed to have bank accounts). then most of the jews were sent back to germany. after the war, the swiss banks simply assumed their former clients were all dead so the money in the jewish bank accounts became pure profit, after all no one was left alive to claim the money. and for the few people who tried to claim money, they were forced to produce impossible documents. one woman went to claim the money her father had put in the bank account. she was actually asked for the death certificates of her father!
ultimately the swiss banks have made millions of dollars off of the money of people they knowingly sent to their deaths. that is the worse story of humanity and greed that i have ever heard.
