Wow, after possibly making a dessision that isolated himself from the rest of the conservative party (by nominating Hariet Miers), Bush's supreme court nominee has prevented a vote by resigning the possibility that she will run. You have to feel sorry for her, Bush pretty much says, u ran gambling in Texas, you'll be a Supreme Court judge, and then she got torn appart by nearly every party. Any thoughts on the nomination or on her resignation?

Its actually quite disappointing. A moderate religious zealot has been rejected and it is likely an even more right wing reactionary bastard will take her place. Say goodbye to legalised abortion, gay rights and many other things that those religious fascists oppose.

This is news to me! I've been following this whole situation very closely, not lately I guess, and I've been shitting my pants in anticipation. Just like Mike Brown (FEMA retard) was an arabian horse show judge aswell as underqualified for the position, Miers has never been a judge. What was even more hilarious is when Bush held a press conference and he was casualy talking about how they intentionaly picked someone who had never been a judge. I almost cried....

Thank all that is good that she dropped out, after all, I fell that describing Bush as "the most brilliant man I've ever met" is very poor judgement. Very poor judgement indeed.

Say goodbye to legalised abortion

They will never illegalize abortion. I just read an article on this in my local paper about the nomination and what it means. Since the republicans have picked up the abortion issue in the 90's, they have convinced many people to start voting on morals and hence to vote republican. They have built a huge support base off of this. They speak like they condemn abortion but they would never illegalize it because that would mean that they would lose a lot of their support base. If I have time to type up the article I'll post it.

Ahh, one less pawn to worry about

Despite her non republican affiliation or unbiased political POV, if Bush nominates her, she's pretty much his droid
After all, she was his lawyer<~Nuff said!

The gov is and will always be filled wit them

Abortion, seems unlikely that they'd make it illegal in the present future, too much support for it

But in about 10-15 yrs, who knows, shit is going from bad to worse in this country
Good thing Im movin outta here after I graduate and get my degree

You want to move to Italy, home of the Catholic Church and birthplace of modern day Fascism. Theres probably a link right there.

Seriously though, if you want to try a European country I would suggest Austria, Germany or France, maybe even Britain, but definitely not Italy. ;)

I think they found some documents of her saying she would vote against Roe v. Wade. She was very conservative, I can't even imagine how conservative the people who didn't like her were.

Bush asked to resign her nomination because he was catching too much flak for it from his ultra-right support base. Apparently the far right doesn't think Harrirt Miers is hard line enough. They want someone who is gaurnteed to vote to overturn Roe v. Wade and make far right decisions.

Maybe they should pray to God to resurrect Hitler. He seems a perfect fit for their views.

Yeah, there's truth in that..."What's the Matter with Kansas" by Tom Frank explains the dynamic of it in detail, and pretty well despite being pro-Democratic.

Bush wants to exploit that "culture war" mentality, as you say, without actually giving the "Christian Coalition" types a whole lot. This nomination was probably an example, certainly the Christian Coalition and similar groups thought so.

But Bush ran into the limits of how much demagogy he could use without actually giving them something material. The next nominee will probably be farther right.

It's a defeat for the Bush administration, which doesn't back down easily. (Seems like every other sentence out of their mouths includes either "resolve" or "stay the course.")

But not a victory for working people, or even the Democrats, neither of which really mobilized to oppose this nomination. More for the right wing of the Republican party, which showed their active support is necessary to Bush.

In the long run will it make a huge great deal of difference if she or another conservative is nominated?

I like Italy due to its amazing countryside, the weather, and the food
And the fact that I speak Spanish and can understand Italian pretty good
Though, Im not catholic and fascism died down awhile ago...

Britain, too cold and dreary
Germany, birthplace of tha Nazi party and adopted home of the Fuhrer
Austria, birthplace of the Fuhrer
Frace, don't like the food

But I'll consider ur suggestions ;)
