So, I've seen the movie but I haven't read the book yet. I just want to know if it's going to help by teaching me about Che or Socialism or is it just a waste of time. Help is appreciated. Thanks.

Well of course its going to tell you about Che and also a more realistic view of what happened. I mean, they changed random stuff for the film, for instance where they crash into the cow, that isnt what happened, they fall off their bike after steering through the herd IIRC

The movie makes Ernesto look more like a goody good guy, but then again what can you expect.

Well yeah I guess it makes Che look like a goody good guy. But I think they did a really good job on why he turned to Socialism in the first place.

True, they kind of showed his political development, however his more radical developments came on his second voyage

Haven't seen the movie myself, but I heard the scene where Ernesto visits a huge mining site, a visit important in his evolution towards socialism/communism, wasn't included.

Well there is one scene where he visits a mining site and stands up for the workers. And he basically ends up yelling at the foreman and throwing a rock at his truck.

i thought it was very good at showing che's socialist evolution. they showed that part where he was talking to that couple in the middle of the desert and i can't remember but i thought that was another defining moment in his life. i thought he wrote an article about it later on when he was in central america.

The black and white images throughout the film, particularly at the end, seemed to be like a collection of important moments and events which helped Ernesto evolve into Che.

I read the book after I watched the film and I found it very entertaining as well as enlightening. Che is an excellent writer and there's a lot of humour in these pages, although towards the end you can actually sense the growing resentment against capitalism and his heightened engagement with socialism. You won't be wasting your time with either the movie or the book - both are essential.
