Latin America today stands at the forefront of the world revolution. There is not a single stable regime from one end of the continent to the other. In particular, Venezuela and Bolivia are in the front line of this revolutionary process.
The election of Hugo Chavez opened up the floodgates of Venezuela's Bolivarian Revolution. Despite the attempts of imperialism and the local oligarchy to overthrow Chavez in the failed coup of April 2002, followed by the bosses' lockout and last years' referendum campaign, the masses have driven the revolution to the left. Reflecting this mood, Chavez has now come out publicly for socialism, which had a profound impact on the masses in Venezuela and elsewhere. This is the reason why the American imperialists are threatening to assassinate Chavez, in the vain hope that this will resolve matters.
In Bolivia, a workers and peasants revolution is unfolding after the mass demonstrations calling for the nationalisation of energy and a political general strike which paralysed the Bolivian ruling class. To be sure, the ongoing situation in Bolivia, like that of Venezuela, is barely reported in the Western bourgeois media - or if it is, it is distorted. But the Bolivian and Venezuelan revolutions are indeed an inspiration to the workers and youth everywhere.
The Cuban Revolution, which stands out as a beacon to the oppressed, continues to face attack from imperialism. The fate of the Cuban Revolution is now directly connected with the fate of the Latin American Revolution. The victory of the working class in any country would spread like wildfire, even affecting the United States.
