I'm no Leninist and I sure as hell don't support the RCP, but I figure this whole World Can't Wait campaign could use as much help as possible.
As a lone commie in high school, what can I don on November 2nd to take part in everything? A walk-out with one person won't even be noticed. Any ideas?

Banner drops man. It only takes one person.

I agree. Post propaganda or some banners or something. Getting the message out is a key part of our struggle!

How would that work, though? A banner drop, okay...its up for 20 seconds and taken down, maybe 5 people see it. I doubt I'd be able to get to the roof or anywhere "effective"...i just dont see a very good way to do this.

Where there's a will there's a way :)
Just rack your brain and think.
Perhaps there is something more permanent than a banner?

Wheatpaste is pretty easy to make and pretty permanant. And you can put up a small poster with it really fast.

Thats a cool idea Chris, but I'd be expelled for sure. I got in trouble for some graffiti last year, and only by stroke of luck am i even allowed to attend the school still.
man im running out of time too...

no. i think we need a very different approach:
we need to organize organizers. We need to go to, reach, win over and mobilize large numbers of poeple. NOT engage in little, go-it-alone actions like a banner drop. We don't want to act "from the shadows" with timid assumptions of isolation.
You need to print the call in large numbers, and hand them out at your school.
And look: you may be a "lone commie" (as far as you know) -- but WCW is not an event that just communsits can throw their hearts into. Millions of people -- liberals, social democrats, radical kids awakening to political life, socialist, religious people, black folks furious over katrina, AND revolutionary communists are working together on this.
If you leaflet your school, you will find dozens and dozens of people (in open and secret ways) who are thrilled and eager to act.
Go to the youth and student pages of worldcantwait for the discussion! they have lots of great advice.
This is a time to dare to step out. This is a time to have confidence we can bring peole w ith us. This is a time to take risks, to reach out to lots of othe rpeople, and act TOGETHER to change the future.

Are you honestly trying to tell us that millions of people are working on the World Can't Wait? :D

well, on an important level, there are millions (even tens of millions) of people grappling together with how to turn back the directoin of events.
I was pointing out that it is wrong to look at ourselves as isolated... and was tryuing to dig into the idea that "I'm a lone commie so all i can do is some individual act."
There is a huge divide in society, a growiong and sharpening conflict of two sides....
and there is a rather bad "polarization" -- in the sense that the fundamentalist right (the Christian fascists) have a great deal of intiative in both the government and society, and in the sense that those opposed to them are defensive, passive and not acting in unity.
On another level, we will see on Wednesday how many people are (at this moment) actively involved in the movement to drive out the bush regime. It is growing very quickly (obviously) and hopefully will take off exponentially.
For that, people like this high school student have to be bold -- recuriting others as recruiters, and break with a "I'm just a voice in the wilderness" pessimism.
Hope you are also going all out, sonofrage, cuz these are days that really matter!
See you all on Nov. 2

maybe there should be some links to banners for the WCW campaign, to make it easy for everyone to spread them around.

I'm curious as to what I can do besides a walkout as it would be utterly impractical and inefficient in my area?

There should be an alternative for people in high school or no longer in school. On a campus it is much easier to organize a protest. I guess i could make some posters to hang up NOv.2nd, im not really anywhere near a campus so just putting up posters saying walk out doesn't make much sense to me. needs a different message.
Also
flyby and diego you both seem to be maoist... this doesn't have some connection with any maoist programs right? i'd rather not have people thinking im a maoist.

of ocourse there are alternatives!
It is not like one FORM of struggle is all there is.
In many places, students will be walking out.
But there are convergences in over 65 places -- which means you can go with a crew to those rallies and marches.
Or you can take a crew from your school and leaflet other schools -- to encourage people to join you.
But the point is: we want to reach and mobilize more people on the day. Not just act, but draw others into acting.
So leafleting at the busses and subway stops about the convergences.... so people will join at the time.
Then, on another level, people can act here on the internet -- take the Call and post it everywhere. Go into discussion groups and let people know about worldcantwait.org (tonight! don't wait til tomorrow!)
If you know press people, or professors, or progressive preachers -- reach them this evening!
and so on, and so on...
be creative, be bold, challenge yourself and others
we need the orientation of storming the heavens.
[on the question of Maoism: clearly and proudly I'm a Maoist, and a follower of Bob Avakian. But this movement to drive out the Bush regime involves -- and has to involve -- broad numbers of people coming from very different political views, and often having quite different political expectations. There is going to be red-baiting, of course -- and there even is here on RL -- and so someone might CALL you a maoist to make you back down, and back off. But the fact is that we should not be intimidated or confused by this kind of tactics. We need a broad unity, and it has to be possible for people to unite around this important goal and still have -- and struggle over in a friendly way -- their differences over other things. Good luck today and tomorrow on November 2]

I just joined this forum to tell that this should help so much. South Jersey never even heard of the World Can't Wait protest. I was the very first person in our highschool to pass out fliers.
Me, and two other friends are trying to get a very right wing school to shift left.
Anyone have any ideas on how to build up this small coalitition?

I was one of the people that help Arielle today. The administration at our school had helped us even prove the reason why we are doing this. They had told us that it was illegal to pass out fliers and hang them up around the school. This is an infringment on our American Rights! It is a Public school, this means that the people who pay for it (the public) should be able to do with it as they wish. I'm sticking to my original plan and just not going in. We passed out nearly 100 fliers today, so there should be a verrry large absence list tommorow. :D

there are two different tactics:
One is to "stay away" -- not go to school, and go with a grou of folks to do something else... (like leaflet other schools or attend rallies in a nearby city).
the other is to go to school and encourage numbers of people to walk out (at third period or at lunch.)

I was talking to my religion teacher today and he was telling me about how during the 60's or 70's he led a walkout out of our school. I found it very interesting, he did it even though the principle heard of this idea and urged him not to do it. The monks that participated were not allowed back into school and the students were all suspended.
