I really like listening to music and I am considering buying an MP3 player but I am asking myself should I buy one as they are made in sweat shops .I would like to hear your views on them ,are there any brands which don’t treat their workers as bad as others? Are there any alternatives which don’t involve carrying large bits of equipment around or don’t involve building one.

Well, its hard to find anythings these days not made in sweatshops. I bought an iPod and I ah happy with it except for the fact that they came out with the video iPod and the nano right after I bought mine. I'd say go for it. If you want an alternative then you could sing the music to yourself. I know some people will disagree with me, but let's be realistic here.

I would only advise you to research your digital music player and not fall in to the fad Ipod.

I chose the iPod because of all of the add-ons for it, like iTrip, podzilla, and the others.

i bought the u2 ipos and i hate it so i gave it to my brother and am now happily reunited with my discman. ive been using discmans for 7 years now, i used the ipod for about 3 weeks before getting fed up with it.

I bought a 40 gig iPod off a friend, it's a novel little gadget but I don't use it very often.

Just about everything is made in horrible working conditions, wether or not you get an MP3 player will make no difference at all.

wow ipods are shitty proprietary pieces. there shoved down your throat as pop culture. anyone who owns one hasn't even bothered doing any research.

DO NOT BUY AN IPOD

the archos gmini 400/402, Iaudio X5l, Samsung YH-J70, and I-river h320/40 are the best mp3 players out right now. i'd go with the archos even though it has worst bat life.

I'm getting a Creative Zen Xtra 60gb. Would have went for an iRiver but I wanted a large harddrive.

You'd need huge pants to carry a record player in your pocket, but otherwise you'd be right

But maybe you could just put it on your shoulder.

"If you want a full stereo system that you can take with you, look no further than Sharp's offerings. 20+ years back, the VZ-2500, VZ-2000 and VZ-3000 included compact stereos systems with a radio, cassette recorder and yes, a turntable. And these were no ordinary turntables mind you, these used "AutoDisc" technology, marketed by Sharp with the phrase "Play Both Sides." Think of auto-reverse tape technology for a record player: using two tonearms, these stereos allowed one to play Side A or B without having to flip the LP over."

If you don't know that much about electronics than it can be quite hard. Refer to my DIY iPod thread in the DIY section.

I'm thinking too about buying an mp3 however I have a huge playlist so I'll have to buy one more than 1Gb obsiously, but they're quite expensive here. The only thing I hate about ol discmans is that they're quite big and you have to carry a bag to put it in.I dont know what im gonna do yet, I'm searching.

Zen Xtra's brilliant. Except that mine's only 40GB.

Get an mp3 CD player, because It will play CDs and mp3s that are written on a CD.
I prefer CDs as they sound better, there's no encoding to cut off the high and low ranges of the audio.
Most of the major mp3 players on the market are pieces of shit, iPods are only rated to last a year and the Creatives all have problems with firmware and displays.

Just my two cents.

Yeah, it is good. But compared to the 60gb. Grrr.

But then again, space for 10,000 songs is way more than I need.

i will repeat do not buy an IPod. if you do i'd have to question your intelligence. what little proprietary pieces of shit. Archos, Samsung, IAudio, and Iriver will give you the best for your money. Irivers you can use rockbox on, it open source and excellent... creatives and rios are shit as well
