Any aussie comrades celebrating Australia day? Here is the ridiculous pledge that is going to be read out at midday by Steve Bracks and any other wanker that wants to join in:

We are Australian
We stand here proudly
Brave strong, open and tolerant
We stand here equal fair true and free
Together we will build the future,
But we will not forget the past,
We will stand together
We are Australian.

Its enough to make me sick. In the lead up to Australia day there has been articles about nationalistic pride that embrace and encourage patriotism. What do Australians have to be proud of?

I will not be reading this pledge on Australia day, I am not proud of being an Australian and I dont see why anyone should be.

I love the United States Supreme Court for this court case.

WEST VIRGINIA STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION v. BARNETTE, 319 U.S. 624 (1943)

The Supreme Court ruled it unfair to force someone to recite or stand during the pledge of allegiance. I think you should tell that ***** to back off before you take legal action.

I also hated the pledges, we have an English teacher and she told us about the pledge of alligiance and I started a discussion with her about this, but she refused to listen and afther that a called it a nationalist pledge a had to write down a story about pledges for punishment.

Yes I know, I asked some of the teacher where they are gonna vote on most (about 50%) say VVD (In my opinion most Capitalist party in Holland). I hate diz if I discuss with em they punish me simply because they don't know why they vote on a right-winged party.

Are you serious? That is so typical of authority, you say something that goes against what they believe and you are punished. Did she even consider your point of view? So much for freedom of speach.....

I didn't think you posted it for fun; I was shocked that she punished you for voicing your own opinion. I was actually disgusted that she could punish you for something so stupid; you have every right to hate pledges

In the US as soon as you reach High School, people stop standing for the pledge and stop saying it, most High Schools anyway. They dont understand why they stop, they just do, it must not be "cool" enough.

If reciting the pledge is 'uncool' amoungst teenagers, who am I to complain?

Blibblob
19th January 2003, 12:59
You complain for the fact that they have no other reason for not saying it. They are still as patriotic as ever. Dis the US in front of them, youll get your ass kickd, but i does seem every1 is on a mutual hate of Bush.

And to another point. Patriotism is bullshit, the real patriots are the radicals who try and change life for the better, not the fucking flag wavers.

its not just the 'uncoolness' of the pledge..its a lie..and its unconstitutional..didnt u guys here about the law suit against it in california? 'one nation, under god'...the under god part is wrong..its suggets that all people must believe in god which isnt fair or right...also the justice and equality for all is bullshit...they dont treat arabs. blacks. or mexicans the same as the white chistians..the 'good' people...didnt anyone here about what happened about a month ago? the government decided that everyone with a background from the middle east had to go to their nearest social security office and sign something..'just for sarety'...when the people went those fuckers ARRESTED 2,300 PEOPLE and they are still in jail..no offences..no nothing..and people are going crzy there...their familys and friends...but ofcourse the media keeps it hushed up and quiet so noone makes a big deal about it..its so wrong! i cant even begin to describe how racist and fucked up that is!...way to go for their democracy..look where it got the people..jail

You should not feel any nationalistic pride especially for the U$A.It would be wrong to fell any pride for your country just because you are born there without good reason. Diss that whore that makes you stand and give your reasons why, it'ss inspire others, hopefully.

Hey BasementAddix, I dont think the "why u live here" is very intelligent at all. Everyone getting up and running away from the problem isnt going to help anything. Besides it can be very hard to move. You leave all your friends and family. Also you have to worry about surviving in a differant country, possibly having to learn a differant language. And theres a lot of fucked up capitalistic countries so you dont have much choices.

I say stay and fight the war at home. Fuck the pledge. Fuck the flag. Fuck Bush. Fuck Capitalism.
