Me and my dad were debating about politics (again), and we got into how Walmart exploits its workers. He said to me, "Well couldn't I be exploited? I make $125,000 a year, but there are people above me making millions a year. At what point am I not being exploited?"

That was one of the first times he actual caught me not knowing an answer.

Most of that ramble was total bull, but one interesting question is this:

At what point is a worker NOT being exploited, or does such a point exist?

A worker is not being exploited when s/he owns the means of production as a member of the united workers of the world.

Such a point cannot exist in capitalism, capitalists don't have wage-slaves that cost profit instead of making profit.

Your dad is both being exploited by the bigwigs at walmart and he is exploiting the little guys at walmart. I think of exploitation of making money at the expense of somebody else.

A worker is no longer being exploited when he or she receives what she is entitled to; the full value of the product that they produce. This means that they should receive all of the money from selling the product. They receive a percentage of that when they are paid. What they don't receive in a capitalist society is that which goes to the business owner - that of profit. Can capitalism survive while still giving the workers what they are entitled to? Absolutely not.

In capitalism, that is when you become the exploiter.

But otherwise, its when you aren't selling time and happiness for something you don't wanna do.

Someone who plays in a band, and makes ridiculous amounts of cash and loves being in her band, then she's not exploited.

Course she owns her own means of production.

Not true, you could be petty-bourgeois.

Its exploitation when someone lives off the labour of others.

I don't know who he's kidding if he thinks we don't live in a class based system.

I would also consider in some form the middle class as being exploited because in today’s society our system portrays commodities as this idle product for you to become one of the "hot upper class celebrities" when in fact its just another useless commodity.

But in theory and practice it’s the working class that are the most exploited.
