GREAT article..read the whole thing...though...there are some things...
1. first of all this is not why capitalism doesn't work-it is why it is unfair...it is sad that any other form of government wouldnt help the problem that these jobs must be done
2."It is because caring is women's work. That attitude is embedded still in the values society apportions to the jobs people do. Cleaning bottoms and being kind doesn't require qualifications, only being a woman. At the heart of the low-pay problem lies the continuing low valuation of what are regarded as women's skills - caring, cleaning, cooking, teaching and nursing.
I disagree with that bit...utterly...
I do though...suggest other people read this
thanks mentalbunny :)

How can you argue with that? That is by society's standards "Woman's Work" it has been that way forever. Sure you don't think it is woman's work because you are progressive and understand that it can be done by either gender. However society at large think that nurses, care givers and such is woman's work.
Say "My friend is a nurse" and see how many people respond with, "Oh is SHE?"
And yes that work is low paid, and it does reflect with how society views woman's work.
Secretary work same thing.

yes they are viewed as so...but I was disagreeing with it saying I don't think they actually are performed as so.
I can't sense the sarcasm in it.
"only qualification is to be a woman"
that is utter bullshit

I always stesss to other cappies the bulshit that Capitalism brings about in the third-world. In nations like the UK, I had never imagined such a growing gap between the wealthy and the poor.
