Does anybody know what the deal with scientology is. I mean all I've really heard is tom cruize ranting about anti-deprecents and that his wife can't scream during child birth. I don't understand this religion at all. Could somebody explain their idealogie to me? Thanks.

Scientology is a religion that believes in reincarnation and the horrors of modern psychiatry. I don't have too much time to talk about it, but if you ask me it all sounds like a bunch of bullshit.

Was founded by a science fiction writer, and says you are a bad person if you don't donate money to them.
Also believes all humans come from aliens known as Xenu.
I believe this definiton sums it up pretty good:
A cult founded by science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard. There core beliefs are as follows:
A religous cult who's beliefs revolve around an intergalactic warlord named "Xenu" who nuked a bunch of aliens here on Earth billion of years ago. The souls of these aliens, called "Thetans", now inhabit our bodies and make us unhappy. The only way to get rid of these "Thetans" is to pay a bunch of money to these con men for the rest of your life.

They even have their own cruiseship where they take the hardcore scientologists to teach them the true philosophy behind scientology. This story is more farfetched than Flying Spaghetti Monsterism.

That guy's poor kid. Baby Cruise is going to be really fucked up. A mix of scientology and stardom is a sure cure for proper socialization.

In May of 1980, Reader's Diegest ran an article in which they quoted L. Ron Hubbard as saying in the 1940's, " "Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous. If a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own religion."
Hubbard than started Scientology in 1951.
In a 1983 interview, Hubbard was quoted as saying, "Scientology is a power-and-money-and-intelligence-gathering game"
Seems like stupid cult crap that people with too much money and time on their hands get into... which I suppose is why it popular among Hollywood idiots.

Noooo, its an intergalatic Boeing 747!
Later they launched an operation to infiltrate the IRS so they could get off taxes....

Thing is, he's not lying about either of those. I did some reading on them this evening, and found no good at all.

Probably more of a sect.
They promise improved memory and reflexes, performance, self image etc... There is encouragement to (yes this is ironic) use the brain more. It promises smart kids and is only twinsted in a few ways.
There are worse out there, newspapers are not a good source for information, search for studies.

What is silent birth?

Well scientologists believe that babies go through so much pain through birth and that any further discomfort or sensory experience to the baby could result in this returning in life to haunt them.

Scientology may be a pile of shit, but i really don't see how it's any less plausible (objetively) than any other religion out there- it just seems less secretive about the 'we want your money' side of things.

That's true I suppose. I mean what's more realistic - Earth was really a death camp for some alien tyrant or that a Jewish carpenter died for our sins 2000 years ago before being resurrected three days later? :P
Still I can't shake the feeling that those scientology followers are wacko.

The thing with scientology compared to other religions is the same as the illegal arms trade compared to other businesses: fundamentally the same thing, only their true nature (an absolute scam for religion, gangsterism for businesses). Scientology doesn't hide what it is as well as some other religions. It's like the Amway of religion!

Yeah, you'd have to be mentally unstable or completely brainwashed to follow a religion invented by a science fiction writer.

Negative sounds in child birth are going to be subconsciously stored in your mind forever, the first thing you hear after/during being born, maybe it does have some effect on people. But then again, majority of people will have heard it so guess its hard to tell. Interesting though.

The silent birth (and silent first week) is a way of ensuring cult members children are not properly socialized and hence are easier to recruit into the cult.
Babies need nurturing, and if you don't talk them often as infants it has been shown that there develops an underlying mistrust between parent and child. Cults exploit this missing link, by promising acceptance and the nurturing environment they lacked as a child.
Hence the reason for silent births.

well I've heared on the news that most scientists are saying that it's untrue that screaming during childbirth will effect a child latter on in life, simply because children don't remember going through birth.

Ah well, interesting thought none-the-less. Dont suppose it matters that its untrue.
And Militant, is that really true? How did they discover this effect on people? Is it proven?
