I think it refers to the generation born just after the war. My mother is a "baby boomer" as she was born in 51'.

As far as I know, the Baby Boomers were the children of the 1950's 60's, followed by Generation X in the 1970's. Those born between 1980 and 2003 are apparently Generation Y.

they're called "baby boomers" because of the huge population boom when the soldiers came back from WWII. Government policy furthered this boom by pushing for the development of suburban neighborhoods, the kind where all the houses look the same and tend to be a strange conglomerate of pastel colors (see: edward scissorhands). This policy was to prevent any combat-trained tenant underclass from developing, and to create larger families built around anti-communist policies. One of the housing directors, although I forget the exact quote, put it something like this: "a man with a house and family doesn't have time to be a communist."

Yeah, I guessed so too... When the soliders came back, they were unemployed and had big families (lots of children), and it becomes a big problem now ? (for populaion)
Sorry, it doesn't belong to politics, so you guys don't need to answer this question...anyway, thanks
