Ask Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez

What do you want to ask Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez?

Mr Chavez has been criticised by the United States for being Fidel Castro's ally and promoting left-wing causes in Latin America.

Since coming to power in 1998 he has split the country between those who say he has become increasingly autocratic, and those who say he speaks for the poor.

Venezuela is the world's fifth largest oil producer and a key member of Opec, supplying 15% of US oil imports.

Is President Chavez the voice of the poor? Or is he an autocrat? Is he a hero or a villain? What do you think of his attitude to the USA? Send your questions to President Hugo Chavez using the form on the right.

President Hugo Chavez will be answering your questions in a special edition of Talking Point this week.

I asked,

What led you to democratic socialism and what are your disagreements with Marxism-Leninism?

I've sent my question, but as I haven't posted anything on HYS for ages, I doubt it will be posted. The trick is to keep sending stuff over a period of a few days until they get used to you, and then after a while almost everything you send will be posted.
After a while you can even start making openly Marxist points.
My question was one considering the possibility of counter-revolution and what he is doing to prevent this (i.e. he should be arming the working class).
I think I'll send another one if this one isn't posted concerning the true nature of worker's power in nationalised industry.

i asked the following:

I have watched the progress which Venezuela made in the last couple of years under your government, I have seen how the people (the poor in particular) have come to your aid time and time again...however...how do you justify living in a presidential palace, while a large part of your people live in shanty towns? If you are truly a man of the people, as you claim, then tear down that symbol of elitism, that symbol of the bourgeoisie!
