"Laziness" is the result of alienation at work: why work hard for money that you don't get a share in? If I work harder, I get the smae wage as if I workerd as little as possible. This is why employers will use commission or competition and, yes, cooersion to make their workers "give it all they got".

Ask them if they have any hobbies; things like building bird-houses, chairs, etc; or writing... anything productive. Then ask them how much they get paid to do it. If they don't get paid, then why do they do it? The point being: people aren't naturally lazy. People are naturally creative, but are pushed into being robots and therefore lose interest in the work.
You could also bring up the fact that until the past 300 years, things progressed without capitalism and everybody still worked. In fact, without the work of all tthe people before capitalism, capitalism itself couldn't have happened.
