On December 14, CP of Turkey held a march towards the US Consulate in Taksim Tepebasi. With an anti-imperialist and anti-war context, a crowd of partisans and patriots expressed their anger about the latest Turkey-USA negotiations and the prevailing prewar atmosphere.
After gathering in front of the party bureau in Taksim, the city center of Istanbul, the crowd departed bearing placards, posters and flags, crying slogans as "No to war!", "Let the bases be seized, US clear out!", "Yankee go home!", "The people into ranks!", "Communist Party, the hope of the country!". With new participations from streets, the cortege marched about 25 minutes, gathering once more on a square in front of the US consulate. There addressed Aydemir Guler, the president of the Communist Party of Turkey, to the crowd and to the press. In his speech, he emphasized the fact that blood of peoples of Turkey is being sold out in the negotiations between Erdogan and Bush and interrogated whether Erdogan mere has the authority to declare war on Iraq. He added also that the peoples of Turkey are definitely against the war and the US bases in Turkey must be seized, driving away US soldiers.
