As I said before, this is a conversation I had with a friend of mine. I posted it because I want your thoughts and feelings on it. I expecially want to see a responce from the right on this. I'm the Thnikkarian of Thnikkatarians. (The name is a varient of "Thnikkaman", persona played by Bubs on Homestarrunner.com)
[12:37] Ramesses Kei: Hey
[12:37] Ramesses Kei: What's up?
[12:37] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: Nothing much, really.
[12:38] Ramesses Kei: Oh.
[12:38] Ramesses Kei: Well.......... How are the studies?
[12:38] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: They're coming along slowly.
[12:39] Ramesses Kei: I'm sick today, missing a whole day of lectures :(
[12:39] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: I actually skipped class today because I didnt get a midterm done... >>;
[12:40] Ramesses Kei: Ow skipping midterms is nasty
[12:41] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: No worries, it's a take home midterm. It's due at 5pm if I happened to miss class.
[12:41] Ramesses Kei: Oh, I see
[12:42] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: Can I ask your a dumb question, then a serious complicated one?
[12:43] Ramesses Kei: Sure.
[12:43] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: You're Russian living in Canada right now, right?
[12:44] Ramesses Kei: Er... well, yes, you can call me russian.
[12:44] Ramesses Kei: Living in canada
[12:45] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: Oh, are you some ethinity other than Russian.. but you're from Russia?
[12:45] Ramesses Kei: yes, I was born there
[12:46] Ramesses Kei: the russian part of me is about 1/4
[12:47] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: How long have you lived there?
[12:47] Ramesses Kei: seven years
[12:50] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: Well, I need to know what it was like over there. Not for a school project or anything, but for my own interest. You see, I've been dabbling with Marxism and while I call myself a Left/Council Communist (though I feel more Anti-Capitalist than anything), I'm still interested in Russia both "Then" and now.
[12:51] Ramesses Kei: Oh, I see.
[12:51] Ramesses Kei: I can tell you how I saw it...
[12:52] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: Go for it.
[12:53] Ramesses Kei: the land of 'Now' is actaully a rather miserable sight. Corrupted government, corrupted police, people living in fear..... a huge percentage of poor, a tiny percentage of those who live in sheer luxury, with a total abscence of some kind of a 'middle' class
[12:54] Ramesses Kei: In order to survive in russia, you've got to have connections, everything is built on friendships. For example, to have your aching tooth fixed, you can go to a dentist which is is a close friend of your close friend, and have it done for a relatively small price, rather than paying half of your monthly wage for it.
[12:55] Ramesses Kei: some people can buy a single piece of clothing at the end of the month, that's the awful ratio of price/payrate
[12:57] Ramesses Kei: the only good thing which I can say about that place is the nature, maybe. Which is beautiful. The people's way of thinking isn't good at all - I mean, I've never felt such shame for my nation before I got here. I live in the russian neighborhood of Toronto, and see a lot of the good old 'mother russia' crap (pardon). You see, those people fight for getting out of there and come here, to the
[12:58] Ramesses Kei: ....to the 'good life', and instead of adopting the western lifestyle to the maximum - they attempt to create absolutely the same thing, like in russia. Dumb, don't you think?
[12:58] *** Auto-response sent to Ramesses Kei: I am currently idle.
[12:59] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: *nods*
[12:59] Ramesses Kei: I'll say that about 10-15% of these think the way I do, all the others are shit.
[12:59] Ramesses Kei: Regarding the USSR, the way it was 'then'...
[13:00] Ramesses Kei: Well, I really don't remember much of it, it broke up when I was four years old.
[13:00] Ramesses Kei: But according to the people's stories, It was much brighter and better than now.
[13:01] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: Interesting... Continue.
[13:02] Ramesses Kei: Another thing to say - the street crime is almost epidemic, the ratio of murders in moscow happening every day is about two times than the one you've got in New York.
[13:02] Ramesses Kei: (public alcohol consumption is permitted and there is no 'legal age' at which you can buy alcohol and cigarettes from the stores.)
[13:05] Ramesses Kei: Now, I don't know where to continue, so go ahead and ask
[13:06] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: Well, I was wondering if I could post this conversation on a commie/anarchist message board I've been going to. I think people would find it rather interesting.
[13:06] Ramesses Kei: sure
[13:06] Ramesses Kei: no problem
[13:07] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: What do you consider yourself poltically now or do you abstain from politics?
[13:08] Ramesses Kei: Hm, I prefer to stay with the art and matters of the imaginary, the way I call it :) Politics are for the dull everyday's people.
[13:08] Ramesses Kei: Though, I have no problem expressing my thoughts about it, like now
[13:09] Ramesses Kei: For comparison, I can describe the previous and current systems of education... as far as I know
[13:13] Ramesses Kei: In the USSR, every person had a set job waiting for him at the end of his studies. A guatanteed place of work. Those who finished school badly, found themselves in the lowest-level 'job' courses, ending up mechanict, machinists and operators of any kind... The others went to colleges (called 'Institutes' and 'Technikums') and universities, beginning to work immediately after graduation.
[13:14] Ramesses Kei: Advantages: Clear and more than you can imagine. Disadvantage: a single one - a quite 'robotic' image of the society, self-expression was rather difficult
[13:15] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: *nodddles*
[13:16] Ramesses Kei: (the russian schools had ten grades, and weren't separated to primary, junior and high, being kept in large complexes instead. I still remember my building, where I studied through the second and third grade, while the other building, across the sport (' Physculture' ) fields, belonged to the 'big people', those who studied in 9th and 10th)
[13:19] Ramesses Kei: Now, it's amusing to study the current aducation system - You study through school, collect money and PAY to get your 'notice of excellence', then PAY AGAIN to get into a good course in the college system. After you graduate, you have all your relatives literally jumping out of their skin, to help you find the dough to pay for help with a job...
[13:20] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: Wow...
[13:21] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: It seems everything is for sale in Russia.
[13:22] Ramesses Kei: Totally.
[13:22] Ramesses Kei: Here's something funny. Now russians say 'Don't buy your driving license if you can't drive...'
[13:24] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: Heheheh.
[13:28] Ramesses Kei: Anything else you'd like to know?
[13:28] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: I think that sufices my curiousity.
[13:29] Ramesses Kei: *grins* Ok.
[13:29] Ramesses Kei: That was a piece of a complicated second question, I must say...
[13:31] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: *nods* It's a vast issue that won't ever been totally pinned down, unfortunately.
[13:32] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: I remember reading an article about plans to bury Lenin in Russia and their was seirous arguments braking out over it.
[13:33] Ramesses Kei: Yeah... He still remains in the sgall box, for everyone to see :)
[13:36] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: Yeah... I think that would be a neat way to be burried, to be put on public display. Not just one man with abishion, but simple people as well... and then you could just go through their life story, reading about it on some craved rock or book..
[13:39] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: I'm weirdl ike that though.
[13:39] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: [*CENSORED BECAUSE OF THE KIDDIES ON THE MESSAGE BOARD*]Here's some porn.
[13:40] Ramesses Kei: ???!!!!!!
[13:40] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: xD
[13:40] Thnikkatarian of Thnikkatarians.: I like throwing people off. Sorreh.
