Awesome stuff rioters bloc! How much does it cost you in materials to make them? I wouldn't mind buying one of the 'riot don't diet' shirts for my SO.

rioters bloc
9th October 2005, 10:21
tops and tshirts usually cost like $3-$5 at 2nd hand stores.. the skirt cost me $4 :) and it was brand new too [tag and all!]

ummmm i use cardboard for stencils which is free if you're ingenious with where you get it from ;). my black fabric paint [400mL] cost $8 and white [200mL] cos $5 [less 10% student discount:)] and they last heaps long too

whoa, the messageboard told me i posted too many emoticons. INTENSE! i had to cut out 4!

How much do you want for a 'riot don't diet' shirt in small?

lol how about i just give her one. i feel dodgy selling things. what colour??

Black Dagger
9th October 2005, 10:35
Fuck that, paint is expensive, how's $15?

rioters bloc
9th October 2005, 10:37
noooooooo really its fine. it doesnt take up that much paint anyway.

just find out what colour and size :D [in terms of 8, 10, 12, not s m l] and get back to me!

Black Dagger
9th October 2005, 10:54
You normally make these clothes for yourself right? Well this money will allow you to keep doing that. $15 or $20 is enough for two new lots of fabric paint and maybe a t-shirt. Anything less than that is exploitation, you'll be losing money whilst expending labour time!

Anything over $15 is fine with me (within reason obviously :P), but i'm not paying anything less than that, you got that mutherfucker? :P
As for the details, a size 10, purple t-shirt with white text please :D

rioters bloc
9th October 2005, 10:58
no but you dont get it! making tshirts is like art to me, i give away my paintings and sketches all the time to people i dont even know, and believe me my paints and canvases cost waaaaaaay more and take more time to make than tees.

pm me her address and i'll send it within the next week :)

peace.

or if youre really adamant, maybe we can barter! exciting.

Except i'm not trying to buy a painting of you! A t-shirt is something i can renumerate you for adequately.

That's what i've been trying to do! 15-20 is where i'm at.

Why? Because you couldn't get the girls even if you were a Pheromone factory and bathed in Axe? Axe smells great honey, so live with it. :P

And I never wear perfume that smells like food...what the hell... Is there even such a thing?

I'm quite inspired. One question though. How do you prevent paint from soaking through, say from the front draining onto the back of a top and colouring it. Do you put something in between or what? :)

I've just realized that I'm somewhat of a cartoon character, almost. For the past three or so years, I've pretty much worn the same thing every day. Not the same clothes, per se, but the same type of clothing: black jeans, red shirt, black jacket, boots, belt. There are obviously some variations depending on the weather, but for the most part it's been the same. It's pretty much all I have in my wardrobe too.

who said anything about sweatshops? are you assuming that because they're cheap they are made in sweatshops?

if i order tshirts through qualitops or no sweat who are both fair traders, i can get em for $4.80. and a lot of the time i buy tshirts from op shops anyway which is why they're so much cheaper. and i try and be as brand-conscious as possible and avoid known sweatshop users.

bur372
28th November 2005, 20:26
You can get fair trade t-shirts for $4.80? That Ł2 :o

Where do you get them from? The cheapest t-shirts i've seen are about Ł2 and i'm pretty sure they were'nt fair trade.

But if you have fair trade products go for. It is however a point to made. The che t-shirts which are made in sweatshops.

rioters bloc
29th November 2005, 05:36
well, me and my friends buy them in bulk cos we make tshirts for campaigns and stuff which means that they're cheaper than normal, by 20%-40% :) the cut is unisex and they actually fit well on both sexes which is great.

we have to order them from the internet because they're victorian based and we're in sydney www.qualitops.com.au

You connect the bit thats going to be an island to outside of the stencil (or some other part thats not being cut out) by a little strip of plastic (or whatever material you're using). Then when you're painting it on, it may disappear completely or it may leave a fine line that you can paint over.

it would be better to creat a whole second stencil for the star if your trying to get a real clean job. Also you can have the star any colour of choice (i recomend red).

I like that too. And I just got in the mail today a letter asking why I didn't vote ...

And Ian, the reason that people might rather do it themselves are many.

Cheaper, more fun, less likely hood of being followed home by ASIO agents after the shop called the Terrorist hotline. Others no doubt as well.

I really would like to do that, just go down the the local Salvation Army and get some stuff and go all DIY on it. Actually, could you PM me on that? Cause I really really wanna try doin it.

for anyone else who's interested in printing their own clothes but who isn't sure how, well silkscreening is good but it ends up costing a bit (if a bunch of you want the same design then split the cost and its fine :)) so i use stencils, as you can use them on other things as well ;)

here's a stencil guide i made earlier http://www.revolutionaryleft.com/index.php...0202&hl=stencil (http://www.revolutionaryleft.com/index.php?showtopic=40202&hl=stencil)

once you have the stencil, get some fabric paint in the colour of your choice and a fat round brush or roller and paint it straight onto the material! put some hard backing down between the two sides of whatever youre printing first: 1. so the design doesnt get smudged and 2. so the paint doesn't seep through to the other side.

afterwards turn the piece of clothing inside out and iron over the painted bits - fabric paint is usually acrylic and latex, and the heat sets the latex in and makes it wash resistant.

peace out!

rb :)

Guys and girls: thse are some pretty sketch clothes. If you have a printer and the funds i highly recomend you get yourself some proper transfer paper that you just iron on with the design of your choice. It less um, "alternative" but at least people are more willing to talk to you on the street.you can work the cost off by selling some of your tees off: i know its not very "revolutionary" but nor is being broke or being so scary that people walk on the other side of the street.

Note: i m not saying those arent really neat clothes and stuff: its just that it may look better.

Well you'd think the chain belt is heavy, first I put it on to go to a concert, just for a laugh, but it fits surprisingly well, you can't even feel the weight.
And yes, fabric paint is probably better, I'm going to use that now, but I've just bought some.

made a stencil on a regular piece of paper, my father stole me some sprayglue from work so i just spray glue on the back, paste it on the t-shirt en drew the outer lines with a black textilemarker, and then the black part of the star (i got it at den banier, you probably heard of the stores, they are chiro stores), let it dry and fixated it. Then i coloured the other part red, fixated and voila.

The cop on the back is too light because i ran out of black paint, but my wage came trought so i'm hoping to "retouche" it next week.

I also get my stuff from "de Bannier". It's like DIY heaven, and very cheap. For a tube fabric paint you pay like 3€80, and you can make like 5 t-shirts or more with it. With a 2€ t-shirt it costs you less than 3€ for a DIY shirt.

i was out with crust and lewis and the cops searched our bags. found paint cans. luckily i thought up the excuse we used them for patches, this jacket was the only proof we had. only later did i realise what i had proudly displayed to the cops. it kind of looks like "molotov love" when i think of it.

As far as I'm aware, you print off the design you want onto the transfer-paper, position it where you want it on the fabric, then simply iron it on (using highest heat and on a surfae that won't dispearse the heat). The design then kinda..melts onto the fabric I guess?
You can pick the kits up in pretty much any craftstore.

Yeah my parents' influence I think. They did it because it was fashionable in the 70's and 80's... then I sorta grew up with it and clung to it because I loved that about my parents. I like to see photos of them when they were my age, hear the music they listened to. It's sort of a part of my understanding of my personal identity. I don't consider myself punk but there are some elements there. I love the "punk" clothes my mum buys me - the tartan pants etc. She still loves it because it's familiar to her and likes to see herself in me. She also thinks Sid in undies is sexy. I admit when I saw that too I nearly fainted

Tight pants and wallet chains
Hooded sweats & Adidas drive me insane
Dreadlocked crusties are hot and cant be beat
Just double up the condom and stay away from their feet
I LOVE HARDCORE BOYS, I LOVE BOYS HARDCORE!

Bi-hawks and studs are really hot
Emo kids whine, but i'll give em a shot
Tight pants-skinheads with bodies that stack
This whole damn scene makes my eyes roll back
I LOVE HARDCORE BOYS, I LOVE BOYS HARDCORE!

I love hardcore boys, its too good to be true
One on one or the whole damn crew
It's all exciting for us so lets give it a whirl
I love hardcore boys cuz they make my toes curl

But sports wearing edgers are who we'd like to pile
After being with a peace punk in black
We're definite that you're never turning back
I LOVE HARDCORE BOYS, I LOVE BOYS HARDCORE!

but i know so many who are just really attractive inside and out. alot of anarchists aswell i notice. for the fact they just want to live and have such an energy. it's the freedom thing. it's not much of a big deal but i feel restricted at this point in my life. and i feel so good around these people.

not scene kids as such. i'm unsure of what else to call them. they are chaos punk, crust etc etc i suppose. you asked me if i was a crusty. there's nothing wrong with "being" punk or anything. it is a label but it's an easy way to tell people what you listen to, your beliefs; even if it is a complete generalisation. i only see "scene" kids as being the ones who go out of their way to fit in. or who try too hard to be different. and i don't hate them anyway. that about them just annoys me.

You can't use hair spray, you need paint, so spray paint or whatever paint you get your hands on, fabric paint if you're gonna put it on clothes. A roller is best for clothes and shit, a spray can is more practical for 'outdoor' use.

Is that the one you had a thread for like 3 months ago???? :o  [/b]
It was 6 weeks. I had the idea, but not the inspiration. Then there were exams at university, pinning me down for several weeks.

Aye, I was going to say the same thing.

Furthermore, most of the stickies at present are largely ignored. If this thread sinks back a few pages in to oblivion, it's always easily findable through the partial thread index.
