We had a personality development workshop in our college.... this guy who trained us is a thiest with high spiritual beliefs. In the first class(last mon) he linked everything to god. i didnt spoke anything...and just started waiting for a chance.he asked everyone to prepare a speech about anything............. today when my chance came i started off in a dramatical manner!

"Can you see an elephant there?"(question to audience pointing towards chairs)
"NO"(their reply)
then i started speaking out -
"IF i do the same thing in a public space, the people will call me mad. But people follow same kind of madness in some ancient-unknown-beliefs........"
"....God created evrything, he created stones, tables, chairs,me,you, rich, poor,Good and evil...he created evil also, if he intentionally created evil, he is not good....If he didn't create evil, then he dont have control over his creations...he cant be almighty. So God cant be almighty and Good at the same time."
"....God created everything..he created time and space..... So before he created time and space, he should have existed outside time and space......SCIENCE says, anything thats out of space and time is NOTHING.,so god is Nothing!"
'Our personality development workshop guy used a lots of Goutama Budhas Quotes to support his arguments, in our previous class....I used one of the quotes by buddha to contradict this guys arguments!........... it goes like this'
Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today i made a quote............ which actually represents this so called Personality developper.....
"They blind fold you, tell 'you are blind', and then mis-lead you!"

How did the audience receive your speech?
i did speak with a bit of fire..............
most of the audience.....no no ... all the audience were believers...
...nearly 75% of the audience showed their sympathy towards my argument....
nearly 15% were neutral
5% supported me and 5% opposed me!

.........Doesnt matter.... the best thing is the audience(my friends) started discovering many flaws and contradictions in this guys arguements.

at last they gave me a certificate and asked me to speak about the workshop.

this time, i was soft and said, "i have learnt and unlearnt several things in these 2 days...Now i am much stronger and active in my principles.....Any how Sir(personality developper) have many good points to make!"

------------and thats how it EndeaD!

That's good comrade! Making an audience sympathetic is perfect. Particularly with personal and contentious things like religious belief, that you spoke well enough for them not to just shout you down is great!
And 5% support might not seem like much, but i'm sure that more than 5% of the people there left with some new doubt, or a renewed scepticism of religious superstition.

Exactly, good work.

"I can see the elephant, it talks to me and tells me to go bomb Iraq." - Dub-ya, the man who's done so much cocaine, he now sees stuff.

On a more serious note, a job well done rahul. If the audience actually managed to listen and think about your argument. Then it shows that not only is the argument good, but also that the arguer promoted his opinions effectively.

Heck, I reckon we put rahul on the campaign trail. ;)

Hi Rahul,

Nice to see a fellow Indian on the board. I really enjoyed reading your posts and the way you tackled the speaker at the workshop you attended. Keep it up comrade.
