I don't know much what's going in other countries, but here (Hungary) we can choose the smaller bad. There is a middle-right and a middle-left. They say the same thing in different ways, but they blame and hate each other... And the two big party knock out the smaller ones from the politicial area. so if a real party with good new ideas came it would't have a chance...

Is is the same everywhere?
or it is just our 'young demokracy'?

Comrade,

It's too bad the Hungarian parties, especially the leftist and "socialist" parties are so centrist. I can understand why one may have apathy toward local political problems and issues, however there isn't an excuse to stay apathetic in world politics.

2002 was a great year. It was the first time, after over a decade of neo-liberal reform, that the whole Latin American region shouted a profound NO! to neoliberal capitalist imperialism. Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Trinidad & Tobago, and Haiti are starting to finally emerge. Pray for these countries, for they are leading the way.

Unfortunately, it's pretty much the same throughout the Westernised world. Here in the UK, the choice is between the left of centre Labour Party and right wing Conservative Party. In the US, the choice is between the right wing Republican Party or right of centre Democratic Party. In France, the choice is between the right wing Gaullist Party, the extreme right wing National Front and the left of centre "Socialist" Party. True left wing parties are only really in contention in undemocratic climates, simply cos of the unpopularity of the left wing following the Cold War and collapse of the USSR.

Although Argentina is "finding its way" after the big disaster caused by the past two presidents (pro-USA) who devastated the country, there is not much of a political party or politician to choose from. He are having presidential elections next March and we will have to choose among the "less bad".

Besides, there are so many left-wing parties (not coming to an agreement among them) that they don't give themselves a chance to make it to the Pink House.

The best that can ever happen is that former president Menem (who SOLD almost the whole country to foreign governments) will NOT win. I he does (he has very little chances to) we will sure be dead & buried forever.

Currently I believe charles Kennedy (leader of the Liberal Democrat party in the UK) is further left than Blair, thus, essentially, making the Lib Dems more left than Labour.

The problemk with Labour is that there is a left-centrist-right punch up going on that has been happening for decades, for ever pretty much. There are occasionally some real leftists that make it big (eg Tony Benn, Aneurin Bevan) but not many, they get drowned out by the centrists and right-wingers.

I think that politics is important but many people don't, they are fed up of hearing the same things being said over and over again, the same empty promises being broken, that they have stopped voting and just concentrated on earning as much as possible and avoiding tax as much as possible (the joys of capitalism!).

He cancelled order of 12 military planes, saving 700 million dollar. This guy rules. Re enforced the genietroops, so they can improve Brasilian roads.

I always thought that Hungry had the communist party voted in again right after the break up of the USSR. Are they still in power?
