I havce just recieved a report from a friend that Le Sainte Union, a catholic girls school near where I live has banned the website of my organisation youth action fdor Palestine. The website which i built earlier this year and which malte hosts contains no 'racist or offensive material. WHile it does contain a number of articles criticising israel and a forum. So I have no idea why it was banned other than an anti-leftist, pro-israel bias.
Well im actually pretty proud that it is taken seriously enough to be banned, but i find this level of censorship disgusting.

Why don't you get in touch with the skool and find out why they've taken that step?? Maybe with enough harssment and persistence you could get them to back down...

It's really disgusting! People should have the freedom to express their opinion!!! If the Catholic girl's school doesn't approve your criticism of Israel - where their religion was founded - then they're real weirdos! We don't live in a "regime"!
Hasta la victoria siempre!!

Being a techno-newbie, I'm curious: HOW do you "block" a website? And what would a user have to be able to do to "unblock" it?
Because if it's pretty simple to avoid the block, maybe that could be communicated to the unfortunate kids at that school.

I like catholic school girls.... but this needs some action fight back to see how you can unblock your web site. Guerilla Radio is right you should go talk to the school and see why they did it and what's their reasons. Fight back man!

i have thoroughly browsed your website, and i must say that it should be put off the net. objectively critisizing the holy state of israel is something the international community must not put up with. accusing israel of war crimes, while backing the claims up with legitimate facts is sinful and horrendus. you should be persecuted and killed by the CIA.
now seriously... i really liked your website, and it's a shame it has been banned. it does not contain even a trace of racism. you should turn to the school and politely request to know the exact reasons for the banning of the site.
off topic. i think you should add more links to israeli sites, in order to add to the objectivity of your site. if you'd like me to, i will happily send you a list of links to very good sites of israeli organizations.
good luck in your tiny, private quest for justice.

To block a website you can go into Internet Option?Security and under "Restricted Sites" add any site you want to block. I'm not sure if a user could block it unless they could breach the administrators account. If the address was changed the site could be visited again from the school but would be blocked again under that name.
Reuben, I can't believe that nuns, or whoever runs the IT there would do that. Get a petition and ask them why it was banned. Go face to face to debate about it.

That is stupid.
My school also has a list of 'filtered' web sites. On the list include probably most web sites on the web. We can't get onto anything from school!!! With the exception of che-lives.
About overriding the ban, the interface is a little different than your average computer, as the filter is made as a 'whole and not on each individual computer.
It is spread to the network by the main computer locked up neatly in the Head Honcho's office. However, I believe there are certain hacking programs available for this purpose. I don't have any names yet.

Yes, those programs are out there, but in the meantime, I use THIS. (http://www.space.net.au/~thomas/quickbrowse)
Type in the URL of the website you want to visit in the THIRD line, and it will override any bans on any site while you're using the SafeProxy.

Reuben, can't you ask your friend to go to the school authorities about the site? Perhaps she is friendly with a few members of staff, and can help on having it unbanned, being on the inside and all.

I could mirror your site on my tiny little private Linux webserver, I have registered several dynamic subdomains at dyndns.org and a dynamic IP. However, the only big problem is of course the bandwidth ( 128kbit upstream, not nearly sufficient, will be very slow ). But if more people than me mirror your site, it may be an acceptable temporary solution.
