O, Muse
Let your voice be my voice
And tell the story
Of that man, so strong in his beliefs
That he would assist in the Cuban revolution
To destroy the Batistas in all their injustice
But, don’t relate that tale as of yet
For now, tell us how he was aroused of the insanity
Taking place in the South American continent
Of the farmers kicked off the land
Their families had held for generations
And his denial of the Gods
Begin his tale when he meets the first
Young couple ejected from their land
Now seeking other employment
Tell us of Ernesto “Che” Guevara and Alberto Granado

And as the truck passed
They saw rising out of the dust
Two figures
A man and a woman
Downtrodden like a dog beaten
By the master that he loved
Like a citizen
Shot by the police that
He trusted to “protect and serve”
They spent the night together and
Heard the couple’s story of how
They were kicked off their land by a prospector
And forced to leave their son with family
Chased by the police for being communist and
The only place they could work at
Was the mine
Where it is so dangerous
They don’t care what party you belong to
In the morning the four continued their journey
Onward to the mine
When they arrived the next day
The man was selected to work
But not the woman
Ernesto and Alberto continued
Their relentless voyage to the
San Pablo Leper Colony
And beyond that
The United States

They trekked through the Andes on foot
And as they walked
A god appeared to Ernesto
And offered him help on his long journey
But Ernesto refused
Knocking him out with the hammer
And cutting his head off with the sickle
The other gods were greatly angered
By this turn of events
And sought to destroy Ernesto

So they sent Felix
The truck driver
They stuck their thumbs out as he drove past
And he stopped to let them in
Unbeknownst to them he was half-blind
But soon enough they figured it out
For he kept running right over
Huge rocks in the road
Somehow, they managed to get to Peru
And they got out there, before they died
The gods were disappointed

They hiked onward and eventually reached
That ancient city, Cuzco
They met Don Nestor
A young man, and guide to travelers
Showed them the wondrous
Sites that the city has to offer
But soon they had to leave
Not wanting the gods
To destroy Cuzco in order to kill Ernesto

So they left another magnificent city behind
And continued on their way
They walked to the once-mighty Machu Picchu
Along the way they met
Another farmer kicked off his land
The crops were already planted
And the landlord brought the police
To deport him from his beloved farm
So he banded together with some other farmers
To grow their own crops
On their own land
As in a commune

When they arrived at Machu Picchu
They were greeted by another god
This time bringing warning and another offer of help
But, yet again Ernesto
Knocked him out with the hammer
And cut his head off with the sickle
The gods were raging
Like a volcano overflowing with lava
Far past the point of eruption
Ready to spew their anger’s magma
Onto Ernesto

Nonchalant as to what might now happen to them
Ernesto and Alberto stayed awhile
And Ernesto contemplated:
“The Incas knew astronomy, brain surgery, mathematics among other things. But the Spanish invaders had gunpowder. What would [South] America look like today if things had been different?”

Onward still
They reached Lima
And met a leprosy expert
Dr. Hugo Pesce
Who had been contacted by Alberto
Before they had begun their journey
He gave them food, money, clothes, and most importantly
Ideas
They read the works of Mariátegui and César Vallejo

But soon, too soon perhaps
They were on a ferry
To the San Pablo Leper Colony
It was a thirteen day voyage
During which the gods took advantage
Of Ernesto’s inability to flee
And caused him a terrible asthma-induced
Coughing fit, nearly taking his life
However, he was to strong
And the Gods decided that
It would be better to leave him alone
They reached their destination
And met the head doctor
Dr. Bresciani
Who gave them a tour of the colony
Explaining that it was split in two
By the huge Amazon River
With the patients on one side
And the scientists, doctors, and nuns on the other
The nuns headed up by Mother Sor Alberto
Are very strict and had many rules
Non-patients were required to wear gloves
When dealing with the lepers
And the only way to eat Sunday lunch
Was to attend Sunday mass
Despite this, Ernesto and Alberto
Did not wear the gloves
The patients loved them for this
And when they did not attend Sunday mass
Thus denied food
The lepers stole food for them
One patient’s name was Sylvia
She was young and fairly rebellious
And kept denying
The surgery that would save her arm
So Ernesto talked to her
And convinced her to undergo
That surgery
Afterwards, he stayed at her bedside all night
Telling her of his family
Back in Argentina

They spent nine days at the colony
Their last night there it was Ernesto’s birthday
And they celebrated
With music, and dancing, and food
Ernesto wanted to share his birthday with the patients
But, the boat was put away
So he swam across the mighty Amazon
Scolded and yelled at the first half of the way
But cheered on the second half

In the morning they departed
On the raft the scientists and doctors
Had built for them
Named the Mambo-Tango after the
Dance Ernesto unwittingly made up
After mistaking the Mambo for a fast Tango

To Caracas they departed
So Ernesto could catch an airplane to Miami
Here Ernesto and Alberto parted company
And would not see each other for another eight years

While Alberto traveled to Cabo Blanco
Ernesto flew to Miami
In Miami, he just relaxed
Until he had to catch another flight back to Buenos Aires
Where it all began

Yeah.
I know it kinda sucks.
And I had to use some stuff from the movie and add in some other stuff to meet my teacher's requirements.
But this is just the rough draft.
So any suggestions would be welcome.

Have you read the book? If you haven't, do so, the book is better than the movie. It's also an easy read.

I would say that you should cut out some of the less "epic" stuff (like the Mambo-Tango story, and change Felix perhaps having the gods blind him just as he picked up Ernesto and Alberto).

Otherwise, a pretty clever story telling nonetheless. I enjoyed it.

Same here, I enjoyed it as well. I would be interested in seeing the finished product. You surely will grade well on it.

Fist is right, if you havent read the book, you might want to consider it. You could add some personal insights from the read. But its definately on the right track.

You are correct.
I haven't finished reading the book yet, and stressed for time I had to resort to the movie.
I should have it finished before I turn in the final draft, since I have surgery on Friday, and will be off for four or five days.

Thanks everybody.

Great job ack.

As I said before add a line with an adjective before describing sylvia.

Also I think that you talk to much on the mambo tango but I think you do a good job on it.

All-in-All great job and I cant wait to see el finisho producto
